Infant gagging vs choking

Note: All of the babies in this video are gagging (not choking). 👆🏽

Gagging is a natural protective mechanism designed to prevent choking. It shifts food or foreign objects to the front of the mouth, so it’s quite typical for babies, especially when they’re getting accustomed to new food textures.

It’s crucial to distinguish between gagging and choking. An essential cue to watch out for is sound. Typically, an infant who is gagging will produce noises, whereas choking is often silent because the airway is obstructed.

When introducing new foods or textures to your baby, always ensure you’re supervising them closely. If your baby starts gagging, remain calm, and observe. If they’re making sounds and not silent, it’s likely they’re processing the new texture and will work through it by themselves. Just remember to always prioritize safety and ensure they’re seated securely during feeding times. 🥑🥦

Why keep feeding her avocado if she doesn’t like it. Poor baby.

There's nothing funny about this. I just can't believe when I see videos when parents are giving babies toddlers food
