This saved my child's life today. Her grandma let her have a Dorito. I came to pick her up and she was walking and eating her chip when all the sudden she began to choke. Typically, she will choke on things for a second and spit them our but this time was different. She was getting no air out at all, and was repeatedly trying to dislodge it. I intervened immediately, slapping her back a bit, which didn't work, I then remembered the video I watched when she was born so I could prepare my self for this in case it ever happened. Layed her stomach down on my forearm, head between my fingers, and slapped her back between the shoulder blades and the chip flew right out. Thank goodness for these videos, they literally saved my daughter's life today, im sure I probably lost a few years off my life from the stress it caused me.

I can’t even watch this without getting anxiety but I wanted to learn just in case I’m ever in this situation with my son.

I don’t have a child. I just want to learn, if it ever comes in handy.

To everyone watching this: don't worry about the blows being too hard, you MUST strike quite forcefully. Breaking a rib is acceptable to losing a life.

This same thing saved my newborns life multiple times choking on mucus and amniotic fluid from when she was born. Classes like these should be made free to parents at the hospital before release.

My son just found a quarter and choked. My husband saved him and I broke down knowing I had no idea how to help him. Thank god for my husband.

Every parent should know this technique. As a Pediatrician I always teach it to parents.

OMG! that happened a few days ago for my baby niece.!! I was literally terrified. she became almost red. there was no one nearby except for me that moment and thanks god I could help her spill the juice out by several back blows. she was out of breath for seconds and those seconds cannot get out of my head. I was so terrified. I do not know what I would have done if something bad happened to my precious baby. I even cannot imagine. I would never forgive myself. every time I remember what happened, I become very sad and just want to apologize . I don't know to who but that is what I am feeling. she is soo precious to me. I love her so so much. I wish no one would see his baby or child choking ever ...Allah protects and save your kids.

This is decent instruction and more or less shows the correct way to treat a choking baby. I am an EMT and American Heart Association CPR instructor and would recommend that EVERYONE get trained in these life saving techniques. Bravo for taking the time to create this video but it doesn't take the place for actual in person training where you get to use a CPR dummy and try the techniques and then ask questions, etc.

On a different note, I teach CPR at my fire station to certify the guys and then teach family and friends more or less for free (there is a cost for the certification cards that I pass onto them but otherwise I don't charge anything). It amazes me how some people are so opposed to being trained. These are life saving measures that can really be the difference between life and death prior to EMS arrival. Everyone should take a class in CPR and first aid in my opinion.

When my son was probably 2, he started choking on a toy. I remember the horror when I looked over and saw the look on his face. I wasn't trained then but I jumped up and did back blows and he quickly spit the object out and started crying. My mom was already on the phone with 911 and had the fire department on their way. They checked him out and thankfully he was ok. He's 26 now :)

You never know when you will be the only one that can help. This was actually why I became an EMT. I didn't want to be that guy stating there in a panic with no idea what to do in an emergency. I got AHA BLS CPR certified, got my NREMT and became a CPR instructor really just for the knowledge. It was only afterward that the opportunity to join the fire department as a volunteer EMT came up. I figured "what the hell?" and joined. If I can do 911 response then I'll have the skills to help someone when it happens at the mall, store, whatever. I used these skills once to save my mom when she started choking at lunch. I was also able to diagnose a cardiac issue with my step father and get him to the hospital. Now I'm also a volunteer firefighter and enjoy helping people in need.

Get trained... you can save a life and it might even be your own.

Please turnoff ad revenue for videos like this. Those 5 seconds or so of ads was a horrible time waiting to get to the lesson as my baby was choking. Just for videos like this please. God that was so scary. I might also recommend a video on how to tell if they ARE choking. Our baby was breathing, but had a chunk of food stuck in his thought. He was frothing at the mouth and spit up a bit, but we were not sure if he was just upset or still choking. Any help indicating would be helpful. Thank you.

The dislodging mechanics are pretty spot on but I just wanted to add that you should never hold a choking baby nonchalantly like that. They squirm and fight and will wrestle out of your arms. You need to aggressively pin their legs to your body while you perform these actions. Else you may likely drop them on their head. Before you turn them, put them in a "claw grip": One hand on the face and forearm on the chest, place the other hand on the back of the head and forearm on the back. Both hands and forarms pressing together firmly. Once turned, aggressively pin the baby back to your body.

I would call out to the nearest person to call emergency services while you are doing this. Don't wait until you know it's not working. No time to waste. Even if you get it out, better safe than sorry.
