My iPad Pro (5th Gen) lost its ability to recharge about a year ago. I brought it to the Apple Store and was told, my words, I was out of luck, it was beyond warranty and I hadn’t bought AppleCare. Fortunately, I had purchased an apple Magic Keyboard, and am able to charge the iPad via that port (else, I would be typing this on a new iPad). I enjoyed your video a lot and was leaning toward the Logitech for a future iPad until you revealed no side charging port. When the time comes I guess I’ll be paying the extra $90…good review…thanks

You’re spot-on about the Combo Touch typing experience. I’ve owned three of them over the years including one for my M2 iPad Pro 12.9 and as much as I love that keyboard case, typing on it was almost a nightmare. So often the cursor would jump to different areas of the paragraphs while typing and at times would highlight sections and then get deleted as soon as I hit the next key.

Much of it was probably due to my palms contacting the track pad while typing but it was annoying enough for me to get the ESR Rebound Case. It has a smaller track pad which mostly solves the palm issue but the raised keys gives me a more satisfying MacBook-like typing experience. And it’s one of a couple keyboard cases on the market that comes with an iPad case to protect the sides - AND a flap that secures the Apple Pencil - all for half the cost of the Combo Touch.

My Magic Keyboard for my 11” IPad Pro has been perfect, no complaints and enough protection for how I use it. High quality and love that it is lighter than the previous version making my iPad & MacBook Air combo very light for travel.

Turn off Tap to Click in Settings>General>Trackpad, solves your problem with the accidental cursor movement

Excellent review! I’ve been using the Combo Touch for a a couple of years (11” iPad Pro and 12.9”). I like the additional protection it provides and the the general flexibility of being able to use it with or without the keyboard. As far as lapability, I’ve yet to find ANY laptop that I can comfortably type on without a desk. One thing you missed though - the access cutout for the USB-C port in the Combo Touch can prevent some USB-C plugs from being inserted fully into the tablet. I’ve got a collection of cables and several of them are unusable with the iPad/Combo combination.

Logitech combo touch is a winner in my book.

I bought one for my 12.9 M1 iPad and I love it. I use it in meetings and for overnight travel.

I really wanted to like the Magic Keyboard more but I just can’t get past the fact that it doesn’t offer edge protection.

I have the Logitech Combo touch for the new M4 iPad Pro, and I’m not getting the same issue you’re having with palm rejection not working and causing the cursor to hop around. I tried to have my palms move around the trackpad on purpose and wasn’t able to replicate the issue. However, I was able to move the cursor around with the base of my thumb (the fleshy part) when it touched the trackpad.

Thanks for showing how the Logitech screen can bend all the way down. That’s the best stand/viewing angle needed for drawing on the iPad so it’s actually a very important one!

I used the prior version of the combo touch and for a while, I loved it and thought I had a good deal and appreciated the ability to fold the keyboard behind the iPad. The drawback came when one of the keys fell off and quickly learned there was no compatible replacement keys. When I went to purchase a new keyboard, I chose the Magic Keyboard and have been extremely happy. One drawback to both is the Apple Pencil does not have a secure slot. I ended up purchasing a holder for when I need to toss everything into my workbag.

These are the 2 keyboards I always buy and always end up using the Logitech most of the time. Mainly cuz I like walking around the house with my iPad in my hands and I like how protective the Logitech is. The Apple keyboard is actually more of a docking station. I use it if I’m going to be sitting at my desk for a while.

Good video! For the issue with trackpad, you can disable tap to click in the trackpad settings. This eliminates the issue of clicking things on the screen while typing. I have both keyboards. For me, only draw back of the Combo Touch is the footprint. Takes lots of vertical space on desktop. But big pro over Apple Magic is the protective case and removable keyboard. I’m also concerned about wear-tear of rubberized coating, but will see how that goes. Wish they had the original fabric type design, just tin black to match the new iPads.

The Logitech is made for those who use their iPads as traditional iPads more often. I bought the Magic Keyboard and was largely disappointed. Outside of the beautiful design, functionally was poor and I always felt my expensive iPad was much more susceptible to naked accidental drops.

The Magic Keyboard tries to transform an iPad to a laptop. But I already have a laptop that’s a perfectly good laptop. Lol

The combo touch is perfect for my use case. I don’t use the keyboard much but the protection and the stand is perfect for watching on the couch plus the protection for when the kids grab it

Just regarding the palm recognition issue, there were reports of that on earlier models as well and there seems to be a solution for that (quote from reddit): I’ve found a solution to the typing errors brought on by accidentally brushing against the trackpad while typing. I<ve found that there is a form of palm rejection built into iPadOS but the tap to click option must be disabled. Since I’ve disabled this I am having way less trouble with the cursor jumping while typing. I’ve also found out that the secondary click option can be achieved also by pressing and holding the trackpad since the two-finger click takes the same time as pressing with one finger and holding. Hope it helps someone. I was very close to return this and get a Magic Keyboard.

The fact that the Magic Keyboard completely destroys every aspect of the tablet when you put it on until you take it off is the deal breaker for me. The fact it doesn’t fold all the way around so you can’t use your TABLET as a TABLET is literally the worst design choice ever made by Apple and Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave. It’s such a shame though because everything else about it is great.

Nice review, Bought the Magic Keyboard it is a work of art beautiful piece of hardware returned it for Logitech. I use the iPad a lot on my lap and for note taking have to be able to fold the keyboard to the back of the device. Why apple discontinued an OEM foldable keyboard for use on the new M4 is beyond me.

I bought this for the 5th gen 12.9 and it was sadly not good, it took my standby battery from a few days to just under 24 hours (leaving me stranded sometimes and having to sit by a wall) also the Magic Keyboard I bought never had this weird issue
