In this video we start a fire using the Hand Drill Friction Fire Method. This is a great bushcraft survival skill to know how to do. This is part of a fire making series I am doing which includes videos on: Friction fire - Bow Drill Fire, Fire Plow, Fire Thong, Fire Piston, and more.

The hardest and most impressive form of fire making. Great demonstration.

Really enjoying these "back to nature" survival videos you've been producing. All the different types of ways to start fires you are able to replicate with ease are fascinating. Would love to see some efficient makeshift traps for catching rodents/small game. Might bring some original viewership back as well! Thanks for making awesome content!!

Making fire. That smile on Shawn's face looks like a little kid, proud of something, and something could be good or bad for the parents. Lol

This method is definitely hard.

I did it with a power drill and some very dry pine, and it worked easily, but the amount of energy required from the drill showed me how difficult it would be for me to do it in real life. The pressure and speed is real key.

I love it. Of all the hand drill videos I've seen, the instant the flames begin, EVERY SINGLE person's face is also aglow with satisfaction and happiness. 100% of the time. Humans have that primitive, built-in connection with 🔥 Thank you for the demo 👍🔥❤️

Do make some more videos on fire starting methods. I want to be able to do that, so TY Shawn. Keep up the survival videos.

Thank you. Very relaxing to watch - even though you were having the work out. God bless you.

Insane way to do it, I've never managed to get a fire going without resorting to making a bow.

I've tried this before ... Unsuccessfully of course but you've inspired me to try it again. I would just go full bore so I'll try slowing down some. Thanks.

This is always how Primitive Technology starts his fires and he makes it look so easy 😂

Looks good I'm also trying to learn I've seen 2 flat board cotton rolled up & charcoal in between & rub the two plywood together & it'll start.

Thanks! I try to never miss a video but even with notifications set to "all" it seems that our YT overlords know better than I do what content I should watch. I only get notified about 70-80% of the time but that won't stop me.

I've never had success with a hand drill but I was watching one from Greg Ovens a (I think) month or two ago and his tip of using a downed tree as bearing block for a bow drill made a huge difference in the energy and time I have to expend. It might be "cheating" but I think I'll try with a hand drill to ease the load while I work on the "itsy-bitsy spider" motion to keep pressure without having to reset my hands every fifth change in rotation.

This probably took 5 hours but Shawn cut the video into a 6 minute time. Nice.
