This is my first step to starting the Konmari Method of decluttering! As recommended in the book, I started with decluttering my closet. I had so many more clothes than I realized. Watch as I purge my closet and learn how to reorganize my clothes. Reading Marie Kondo's book, The Lifechanging Magic of Tidying Up has changed my life for sure. Having a completely different mindset on what to donate and what to keep has completely changed this process for me. Is this the first step to living a minimalist lifestyle? I am so excited to share this process with y'all and find out how to live with less and live with only the things that spark joy!!

Two years ago February 1 my husband and I had a house fire and lost everything we owned other than the clothes on our back. The major thing I learned was that we don’t need ‘things’. But before that my husbands parents passed away and we had to clean out their house and I remember thinking ‘I will never ever want anyone to do this for me’. I have become a minimalist and that sparks joy in me. We don’t need stuff in our place, we need love. Thank you for sharing with us. New subscriber here from 🇨🇦

HOLY SHIT! 👏I👏AM👏SO👏PROUD👏OF👏YOU!!!! I'm the one from your livestream who throws out cards as soon as I'm finished reading them🤣, and to put it into perspective, I only have 5 days worth of clothes! My jaw LITERALLY dropped while watching you dump your clothes - you had a whole store!!! I used to be like you but I noticed the more clothes I had (and my kids had), the longer I could go without doing the laundry and therefore it would pile up and I'd have to deal with 10 loads at a time. I minimized our clothes to 5 days of clothes and therefore we just do 1 load every 2 days or so, and it's done wham bam thank you ma'am! Just wanted to share how it's helped me and if you want to chat more, I can send you my video that I shared with my friends on how I got to that point! You did oooo oooo well.

Over time you will have random bursts of energy where you want to purge again. I have purged my closet about 6-7 times since I read the book a couple years ago. And every time I get a clearer concept of what I want in my closet and I’m bringing in a lot less clothes.

I love the way you did this, and your husband’s reaction was priceless! You’re so lucky that he’s supportive of you in this, and not resistant to decluttering! You guys are a great team, and that’s a HUGE benefit for success!!!!

Its been about 6 months since I did my Konmari, and it is going so well! My room is so organized and I love all of my clothes. It was such a long and difficult process, but I'm so glad I did it!

This was truly an eye opener. I will be doing the same thing this week and just watching your video I realize that I have just as many clothes as you do or maybe more. I really have a lot to do. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

So so excited to watch the process! I totally get the whole thing about storing clothes for the multiple types of bodies- I struggle to keep weight on because of cystic fibrosis, so sometimes I need smaller clothes and other seasons I’m healthier and need my bigger sizes! The struggle is real

I can’t imagine owning this many clothes. You are going to be so relieved when this is over. I spent two years decluttering and felt amazing. I’ll do a recheck in January. One quote that always stuck was “see that clutter, it used to be money.”

Hello! I discovered this method about eight months ago, and I can honestly say that it has completely changed my clothes buying habits. As someone who already routinely went through my clothes every six months or so, I was shocked when I was able to get rid of about double what I was anticipating. I am also not as tempted now by clearance racks, as most of what I got rid of were impulse buys because they were cheap. Now, thanks to the ingenious folding method, I always know exactly what I have and when it makes sense to make a new purchase!

You did such a good job! Go easy on yourself too, because it is a process. Like you said, going through things twice you will see things you should have gotten rid of. And overtime it will get easier to let go of stuff as well. Kon Mari is a great way to start with minimizing, her book is what got me started! There was a phrase though that worked even better for me than "does this bring me joy?". That was the meaning of minimalism, which is...Living Intentionally. So I would ask myself, "does this help me live intentionally?". I found that made SUCH a difference, because sometimes things bring you joy but they don't serve you in a positive way. I am excited to watch your other decluttering videos!

I came to this same point several years ago. I cleared out clothes I had kept for 20 years, never wore, didn't like, got too mature for or were worn out. I cleared out jewelry, coats, shoes, papers, dishes, you name it. Why am I keeping this? I asked myself all the time. Someone gave it to me, I paid too much for it, memories etc... It is such a relief to now not be surrounded by excess and clutter! I go through things periodically and keep a running donate bag in my closet for those things I haven't worn in the past year or things that I no longer resonate with or even the spur of the moment buys that I, after the fact, realize are not right for me. It has gotten easier and easier to let go. The thing I have to continually reinforce is not buying something because it's on sale or clearance! Or buying more than I need or could wear. How many shirts do I actually need??

I really love walking through a house that has clear spaces. I learned that a cluttered (full of stuff) house is a sign of a cluttered mind. Yikes. Hit me right on target there. Less stuff has led to a calmer mind. And it's super freeing.

You go, girl, I am right here cheering you on! As a side note, have you ever heard of comedian George Carlin's, "A Place for My Stuff?" It's old and funny and a little crude, but geez so true!

I've got to say I'm very impressed that everything you had in that pile was everything you had because I have lots of clothes in my closet and dresser but in addition to that I have at least half a dozen totes of MORE clothes. Don't let anyone make you feel bad, you are doing awesome and once you're done it's going to feel great!!

As someone who has lost 77lb since September 2017, I totally get the issue with getting rid of things that don’t fit. My mum and I ended up donating things that just aren’t good and then putting good things (e.g. brand name items) in a suitcase. We now plan to have a stall at a local market one day and sell all our old stuff!

Konmari folding has changed my life! Stick with it!
And congratulations on making a start! My mum and I did our houses and had a garage sale at the end. We made $300 and donated what didn’t sell. My life is now changed for the better!

I've done the KonMari method about 3 years ago, and it definitely was life changing for me! Since decluttering the first time, I've actually decluttered about three more times, including everything I own. My wardrobe has reduced a ton- I've donated about 15 or 16 bags of clothes which is unbelievable to me, but I love and wear EVERY item I own now. I've also discovered my personal style through this, and choosing outfits is so much easier for me now. I also now know what to look for when shopping now, and it's helped me save money and time. I continue to fold the KonMari way too! Never went back! My clothes stay vertical and I love that I never have to refold my clothes and messes are never created by pulling clothes out of my drawers. It does take a bit more time folding like this, but I think it's worth it and makes my clothes last longer too. After Marie Kondo, I've also learned about Minimalism more, listen to "The Minimalists" podcast which is awesome, got a couple of their books which are great, and I've done the Minimalism Game Challenge, which they talk about. I've gotten rid of so much, and I didn't even think I had a lot to begin with. It's crazy how much clutter we think we need and hold on to, even tho we don't use these things we think we have to have. After getting rid of all the excess, I do not regret getting rid of anything! And it's simplified my life, made me be way more conscientious of what I choose to bring in my life, helped me realize that material possessions really don't make us happy, and has helped me realize what non-material items brings me real joy-- experiences with family & loved ones, creating, etc.

This is a such perfect timing in my life for this kind of video! I am literally so overwhelmed by my clutter, my home should bring me peace not stress, I just don't know where to start! I will try to focus on one area at a time and end up in 10 different places with more of a mess then when I started lol I'm definitely going to look into this book!

Another problem I have is also my attachment to things no matter what I tell myself I still have such a hard time letting go. I already had so much of my own stuff that I didn't know what to do with that after I lost my mom I took so much of her stuff (which is still in boxes and it's been 5 year's since she's passed) but I can't even bring myself to go thru her stuff....even though I know stuff doesn't replace the person or the memories of that person it's still just so hard to let go of!

Somebody tell me why I was overly excited to see the mess, lol! This is so satisfying to see things being cleaned up too. Now I'm ready to get rid of more stuff in my home, lol!

Kaite, These videos have been amazing. You have been summing up a lot of goes on in my head around juggling, life, kids, relationships, friendships, work and even myself. I have done several closet clean outs and love the process of seeing it all look neat and tidy. I am slowly decluttering my house but its taking me a while due to not enough time but I am getting there and only bringing in things that bring joy and happiness (6 new houseplants later!) Thank you for being so open and honest!

I'm going onto about round 1000 it feels like. Minimizing, it's so tough but so worth it.
