Tracking the Tropics: Milton is a Category 2 storm, expected to be major storm today | 5 a.m. Monday

Hurricane Milton is continuing to "rapidly intensify" as it continues its track toward Florida, according to national hurricane forecasters.

Milton came on the scene on Saturday as a tropical storm. Now, as a Category 2 hurricane, the storm is expected to become a major hurricane, Category 3 or higher, on Monday, the National Hurricane Center said.

Florida could see impacts beginning Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

As of the latest advisory, the storm is about 750 miles west-southwest of Tampa with maximum sustained winds at 100 mph. It is moving east-southeast at 8 mph.

I keep seeing the evacuation comments on hurricane content videos. Hurricane Helene eventually stalled out in the Midwest which is where I live. What was I supposed to do seek shelter in a field clutching onto a cornstalk or attempt to humbly approach an Amish farm.

Hold hope that it weakens even more before landfall. It has happened, and I pray that God allows it to diminish.

Don’t judge or condemn people that don’t evacuate. You don’t know their reason and some may not be able to.

Be prepared to warn viewers of landfall as a CAT 4 or stronger. It’s a solid CAT 2 already and wasn’t even expected to reach hurricane status until sometime later today.

My girlfriend got a job near Orlando this summer and before then she’s only been to visit the area. But she’s lived there for a few months now. And I just hope that everything will be good. The amount of rainfall and the area she lives is scary but luckily she stocked up and has enough food and water for at least a couple weeks
