Impacts and aftermath of Hurricane Milton in Florida

(AP) Hurricane Milton churned across Florida on Thursday after plowing into the state as a Category 3 storm, bringing misery to a coast still ravaged by Helene, pounding cities with winds of over 100 mph (160 kph) after producing a barrage of tornadoes, but sparing Tampa a direct hit.

The storm tracked to the south in the final hours and made landfall Wednesday night in Siesta Key near Sarasota, about 70 miles (112 kilometers) south of Tampa. The situation in the Tampa area was still a major emergency as St. Petersburg recorded over 16 inches (41 centimeters) of rain, prompting the National Weather Service to warn of flash flooding there as well as other parts of western and central Florida.

Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team in St. Petersburg, appeared badly damaged. The fabric that serves as the domed stadium's roof was ripped to shreds by the fierce winds. It was not immediately clear if there was damage inside. Multiple cranes were also toppled in the storm, the weather service said.

St. Petersburg residents also could no longer get water from their household taps because a water main break led the city to shut down service.

Before Milton even made landfall, tornadoes were touching down across the state. The Spanish Lakes Country Club near Fort Pierce, on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, was hit particularly hard, with homes destroyed and some residents killed.

It annoys me how YT ensures all reports of the hurricane are only filtered through official news sites.
I find the best coverage comes from peoples personally uploaded videos, but YT makes those videos near impossible to find unless one has a direct link. There are hundreds of thousands of videos, maybe millions or more videos on YT that basically lay dormant, with a few dozen views because they're unsearchable, but it's these videos that often allow viewers to link the dots, but sadly they're hidden, buried by the algorithms.
Don't get me wrong, news channel reporters do a good job, but they can only tell a part of the story from a narrative point of view rather than a personal one.

Just a message of hope from your cousins in Canada. Help is on the way from far and wide. Linemen with specialized trucks are near to you from Nova Scotia Power Inc. They will assist local power companies in restoration of power to homes and businesses. You will never be forgotten. Love ❤ & 🙏🙏🙏 from Canada.

Don't let the media hype you guys. We in florida are all right, FEMA needs to go helping North Carolina, and they need it more. Our local restoration companies and insurance will have us covered.

So this was supposed to be a catastrophic hurricane one time in a century. This does not look to be as severe as they predicted hurricane Helene looked to be much more devastating, causing a significant amount of damage. This seems much less.

I keep seeing videos of the Tropicana stadium having its roof torn off by the wind, but the roof looks like it's made out of some kind of fabric or other soft material that's capable of flapping in the wind.

If you notice the only show the severe parts on the news, meanwhile more than all of Tampa did fine. 😂 the news just loves to exaggerate everything.

The construction materials and methods used by Americans to build homes ate the same as the UK uses to build garden sheds.

Hey god. Almighty, all knowing, all good. How about some help. Better yet, don't allow a storm like this to happen in the first place.

Now the "no one should pay any taxes" and "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" crowd will beg for a government bailout.

Rich people get a bad storm and it’s “catostrophic” poor people are stranded and it’s “unplanned” and “stand down “ disgusting

Family Friendly . . . . .
All news videos go through language filters in order to broadcast them on the air . Private citizens express their feelings explicitly about seeing a roof being torn off . be safe . Look to the source of the video . not title or thumbnail pic .
