My 2cents, Engineering is a 5 year degree compressed into 4 in Australia. Only choose it if you naturally enjoy sitting down for long hours to work something out and make it a priority. If you can't do this... then stay away. If you don't like putting in a lot of effort to find out you got it wrong, then avoid it. The concepts are easy to understand / learn, just really hard to apply and find a solution... sometimes working through a solution can be 10 hours straight (with understanding the concept). Engineering you have many tools and it's up to you to figure out how and when or if to use them... that's why it's hard. Everyone wants to do Engineering for the "good money or good job"... do commerce or law.... way easier to achieve the same outcome. Engineering is a pursuit for excellence and mastering knowledge... not to get a good job.

It took 5 years to complete my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Engineering Enterprise from Michigan Technological University (MTU) from 2004 - 2009. My first year I was originally a Computer Science major who started in pre-calculus and switched to Electrical Engineering at the end of that year. Worked over 20 hours per week at a job to pay for the next semester. I was in the Enterprise program (Doing the equivalent of senior design) for 6 semesters which was a good thing to put on the resume since it gave a multitude of different project experiences. Went on a 7 month co-op / internship in Spring 2007. At the end of my 4th year (Spring 2008), the academic advisor said I was still on track to graduate in May 2009 and was told one of my last two semesters would be 18 credit hours. Upon finding that out, I spent Summer 2008 taking 2 general education classes at MTU and working nearly 40 hours per week to make my last year far less painful and not have an 18 credit hour semester.

Can’t believe how timely this video is. As a fourth year structural student at Auckland, you’re bang on. Multiple simultaneous assignments going on, just finished a quiz on last years content (more revision)… and it’s close to midnight. You get what you give…

Just listening to this video made me tired. I finished my BSME in 5 years because I had to work an average of about 30 hours per week to pay tuition. I also had to drive about an hour (one-way) to and from school during my first three years. I generally slept only 4 hours per night Sat - Thur and crashed for about 12 hours on Fri night. The rest of the time I was either in class or studying. Looking back, I honestly don't know how I made it.

Im trying to LEARN and i really want to but the exams are like every two weeks and are more based in repeating exercises rather than understanding..it’s so upsetting to be in between those two

Its easy to find a job but the salary is eventually the same as someone who never went through the mental toughness as engineer students. Judy and Sam who never bothered to math and jollied uni make as much money as us 💀
