Hi. Excavator of no. 12 here (Nineveh and Nimrud). The Sennacherib reliefs found at the Mashki Gate of Nineveh were never previously discovered. They were from an unopened chamber of the gate, so completely new. They were damaged in antiquity by, most likely, the Assyrians themselves (not ISIS). Loved seeing the inclusion of the Adad Nerari III palace. Best wishes and Happy New Year!

I'm happy that the bronzes of San Casciano dei Bagni in Tuscany are mentioned. Me and my colleagues studied and catalogued the coins that have been found in the bath, together with the statues, and they are preserved perfectly. They look like they have just been minted! Just for the record, most of them are bronze coins dated to the I-II century AD.

I find myself thankful to my mom for getting me so interested in archaeology and ancient anthropology by taking me to her college courses when I was younger. The professor was more than happy to let me sit in as long as I wasn't disruptive. I started going and just playing on my Gameboy Color but after a while started actually listening when the subject of Egyptology came up. I was amazed at all the things that weren't taught in basic education despite how important it is to know. The professor even had an Egyptologist come in and talk to the class about some ancient tombs they found under some local shops in Cairo's main market too. I'll always be excited when "new" things are discovered that can rewrite history

Working in a building that teaches remote sensing and LiDAR. Discoveries in archeology using these techniques always makes me happy! I love LiDAR almost as much as I love ancient history.

I’m so glad this is becoming a yearly thing, love hearing about new discovering and seeing that while there were many bad things happening in 2022 there are also great things!

That's a great list, I would also add the discovery of the Casarabe culture in the Bolivian Amazon Forest made by LIDAR if I'm not mistaken, together with previous findings on the Upper Xingu River it implies that there is still much to be discovered in the Amazon Basin and that complex urbanization is not an Andean exclusivity in Pre-Columbian/Cabraline South America

Thank you Dr Miano, for not just collecting this list but for also including on it sites that were not just in the Middle East, Mediterranean and Egypt. The sites from Mexico, Peru, and China were very impressive and it is just good to see some diversity in the reporting of archaeological discoveries. My wife and I quite enjoyed your video, as we often do.

Thank you for this repetition of the year. Good to be reminded once more of these nice discoveries! The tomb of the Aegaean mercenary is the most interesting to me, because it is from the Saitic time, when allegedly the story of Atlantis was passed down to Solon. But mercenaries have been in Egypt long before. Well known are e.g. the mercenaries from Sardinia with their horned helmets, from around 1200 BC.

I’m shocked by how modern that Roman lead tank looks! It’s incredible how much continuity our technology has from that of the ancient world!

Wow! What a great video. I just subscribed. This year marked my 43rd archery season. Archery is a common thread for me to relate to those in the past. Your number 12 shows a scene of an archer drawing back a bow. I can tell they used thumb rings. I couldn't tell which side of the bow they rested the arrow, though. I use little things like this to better understand who influenced them. Artists always depict archers with perfect form-unlike my form.
Thanks for the great video.

This! Why is this not enough for people ? It’s fascinating yet there will inevitably be some who’ll add their own fanciful ideas about aliens or magical beasts to historical finds. History doesn’t need embellishments, it’s enough, thank you for your content sir.
