In regard to makeup brushes and name brands: My husband asked me what I'd like for Valentines day about 18 years ago. The only thing I could think of was makeup brushes. Thinking he'd go to Walmart or Target I never gave it another thought. However, he went to the Fashion Mall near his office, walked in to Saks and purchases a set of Chanel brushes at nearly $300. Tho I tried to talk him into taking them back he refused. I still have them and they're STILL LIKE BRAND NEW. I just use my shampoo to clean them and let them dry and you'd never know they were almost two decades old.

I am an elderly woman who tracks every dime and now live a comfortable retirement. Best lessons came from my older parents who lived through the Great Depression. You never forget those lessons!

Frugal doesn’t necessarily mean cheap....it actually means making the most of every you have, finding the best deals on the things you want/need, quality over quantity and not being wasteful.

The key to remember here: Frugal people live beneath their means.

I was typing, “comparison is the thief of joy”, and you beat me to it! 😂 loved this, great points.

I used to compare myself to our neighbors and was jealous of the constant travel, new clothes, home upgrades...etc. Then one day we were talking about saving for college etc, and not one of them had plans and many had a lot of credit card debt. No longer jealous

When my daughter was young, she always complained about my going to the clearance rack when shopping for clothes. When she turned 11, I gave her a set amount of money for a shopping spree. You guessed it, she went to clearance racks. 20 years later, although she always looks chic and polished, she never pays full price for clothes.

My son’s grandmother once asked him where his mother got his clothes, he said “my mommy’s favorite place to shop is clearance “. Lol

Frugal people don’t buy new stuff just because their stuff is old, if it’s still fine. For example, makeup brushes 😆

Older folks here and I have pretty much always been frugal. I can say that now in our retiment years with no debt, life is pretty amazing. We do what we want, when we want and I like it that way!

I always go to Dollar Tree before I go to the grocery store. I mow my own lawn, that saves 80 dollars a month and I don't have to exercise as much. Mowing a lawn is a workout in itself.

Investing when the market is down is like buying on clearance! Yes please....

I also recommend volunteering in order to get access to an event. When my son was little and I was dead broke I would volunteer for a Day Out With Thomas and then he could go to the event and have a blast because he adored Thomas the Tank Engine and I wouldn't have to pay $60 or whatever it was for us to go.

Be sure to store your bottled water in a place that is cool. If plastic gets too hot in a garage it affects the water and you don't want to drink it.

Name brand: I am not a huge name brand clothing person. But when I started grad school my father bought me a Coach tote bag for my books and lap top. It was $600 was was a crazy amount of money for my family. I couldn't believe he bought it. I have now been carrying that bag for 15 years and it still looks brand new and professional. I use it for work daily to haul my work files and lap top. There is no way a cheaper bag would have held up.

I do buy bottled water but like you its for emergency only. I lived with a well for a decade. When we had power outages we would lose water. Once we were without water for 2 weeks. Due to that I keep gallons of bottled water on hand just in case.

I love the not comparing. We bought a modest house with acres and love it. We could’ve spent so much more but we can now travel, buy atvs and a boat and only have debt on our house. It’s really nice

I’m pretty frugal, but I also have chronic illnesses, so I do some of these things. It’s not about “convenience”, as much as it’s about survival. I thoroughly enjoy your videos, and wish I had your energy!! Love you!!
