For those who want a visual summary;
1. Do not waste
2. Always learning
3. Value quality
4. Avoid paying for convenience
5. Rarely impulsive with money
6. Surround yourself with like-minded people
7. Don't shop as entertainment
8. It pays to be patient for sales
9. Don't feel the need to upgrade
10. Live within your means

My brain needs to see it written to remember. Love the explanations for each point 💗

My best frugal habit is, instead of going out to movies and dinners with friends, we do potluck together for dinner and then we play cards or board games for the evening or watch Netflix. It's actually more fun than going out and spending a lot of money.

My frugal habit that has not been mentioned is by eating only two times a day. I have coffee at 6am and then eat at 10 or 11am. My dinner is at 5 or 6pm. I am so used to it and are never hungry. By eliminating a lot of carbs in my meals and no snacks, I have been able to maintain my weight with a BMI of 23.

I turn to "youtube university" when something breaks or I need something. I learn as much as I can about it, and then attempt to repair it or build it myself, before I spend any money. I'm a middle-aged woman, and without any training, shop classes, etc., I've taken apart and fixed my washing machine, my furnace, my dishwasher, and my lawnmower, and have done simple electrical, plumbing and automotive jobs. I learned how to use a sliding compound miter saw to put up crown moulding in my house, and other architectural mouldings. I have laid flooring, repaired and updated my cabinetry, installed small cupboards in the gaps between studs, etc. You can learn just about anything from the internet and it can save you a ton of money!!!

My best frugal habits are: clothing at Goodwill, garage sales, or on clearance; buying meat on sale; shopping at Aldi; using grocery sales and coupons; spending from a cash envelope system; using my sister's Netflix 😉; getting most cleaning supplies and toiletries at Dollar Tree.

Love the list - my parents always did these and so do I. Hard to maintain some friendships sometimes when adulthood arrives and we realise we have very different ways of spending money. One frugal habit is simply to be grateful for what I have. By focusing on what I do have, rather than what I don't, it gives me the sense of fulfilment that keeps shopping habits at bay.

Pleasure delay is a huge skill which will benefit everyone. We've taught our son this early on too...

In my 20's, I read an article where the person said something like, "don't just live within your means, live well below it." While there were time when we lived just within our means (barely sometimes), we have strived to live well below it, which had allowed me to stay at home with my kids. 3 kids in daycare would have been costly, and would have eaten up my salary, and by me staying home, I was able to manage our budget and shop more frugally! As they got older, I could have gone back to work, but the freedom I had to take my kids to doctor/dentist appointments, as well as staying home when they were sick allowed my husband to not only take a better position where he sometimes had to travel for work, but also got his masters, which also increased his salary! Our "jobs" (trust me, I worked my but off some weeks! LOL) were what we both wanted. Being a natural-born homebody, it suited my disposition!

Im 61 yrs old and since the pandemis started lives alone I think its more practical to be frugal when you live alone and on your own. But my son will be staying with me again to go back to school and he is frugal as well ...learns to cook healthy meals and saved money for his studies.... Greetings and watching your videos from Sweden.

"Having more money won't make you a better steward." That's the most important line. Such a gem!

"Avoid paying for convenience"...OMG this is me. I've never ever paid for food delivery. Not even pizza. Even at work, i would tell everyone i'm going to this restaurant for lunch to pick up food and would get everyone else's orders (did not want to pay for delivery). I did this so many times that co-workers started giving me extra money just to thank me for picking up their food.

I bought a truck 11 years ago for 1k and I’m still driving it. I pay less than $25 per year in taxes. I love it.

My on/off switch on the tv broke this evening. The kids were so upset. I unscrewed the back, there was a small plastic part that had worn out and broke. So, I got the super glue and glued the bits together. It works, better then paying someone £80+ to be repaired or to buy a new tv.

I have been obsessed with food waste since I was a kid.
I started meal planning about two years ago and refuse to quit. There is an incredible feeling of satisfaction to pull a whole month's meal plan from the food already in the house. I end up feeling rich. I also notice that my food bill plummeted.

Our sofa is thirty years old and going strong. When something works, we stick with it!

Hi Sarah, this is your best video ever. The point about growing up with shopping/hoarding/frittering really hit home and made me pause the video so I could comment. When I became an adult, I viewed my pay cheque (and the space on my credit card) in terms of how to divide it up and I wasn't satisfied until it was gone. It never crossed my mind that one of the places my money should go was to savings. Luckily I was later forced to sell a house I couldn't afford, which paid off my $28k consumer debt and I finally discovered frugality at age 58. My "golden" years will be tight but do-able. Major kudos on smartening up decades before I did.

I loved this video! So nice to hear I’m not the only weird frugal one who does all these things lol. My frugal superpower is meal planning and cooking Inexpensive healthy meals for my family of 10

#1 tip to being frugal, ask yourself before you buy something: "Do I want it, or do I need it?"

Apparently, I am an oxymoron because I am frugal until I binge shop! Then, I am frugal again for a few months or years, until I binge shop again. MOST of the time, it is on things we need... but sometimes it isn't necessary items at all! #Workinprogress
