GRIP2 VS RC2 Fox 36 Damper Comparison // Review

Dan takes the new FOX Shocks GRIP2 damper out to the trails and compares it directly to the previous kingpin in the Fox line-up, the RC2 damper.

In this back-to-back test, we head out to Galbraith mountain with a Fox Float 36 fork and the brand new GRIP2 damper, which features a completely redesigned architecture that results in less friction and greater ease of maintenance, while providing more and more usable adjustability.

We also go over some of the significant differences between the two dampers, we weigh them to see how they stack up for you gram counters, and we finally decide which takes the cake as the best damper.

RC2:
- HSC: 15 clicks out from closed
- LSC: 15 clicks out

Funny how Fox right after they bought Marzocchi came up with the Grip damper. A system identical to the DBC unit Marzocchi used right before they went bust.

Great video as usual but I do have a question. It seems that the Grip2 damper actually has one more seal (IFP seal) than RC2 damper so it should have more stiction. In addition to that the Grip2 has a bigger shaft diameter so that increases friction. Am I missing something?

Hey, I'm due a suspension service. So I thought to myself that I might as well drop in GRIP2 damper rather than servicing my RC2. There's is a different option though: Andreani piston kit. Have you guys got any experience with those? Kinda digging the idea of GRIP2 damper though cos I can do it myself and also any future services.

I did the Raging River Lollipop yesterday for the first time on my Ibis HD4 with a Fox dpx2 and 36 27.5 160mm performance elite fork set to 30% sag. I set the tire psi a little higher than normal, i didn't want to get any flats/burps and was told the climbs were brutal so i set psi to 30 rear maxxis dhr2 2.4, 28 psi maxxis dhf 2.5 front and almost half way through I noticed the climbs and flat areas were superfast but the DH sections were brutal and chattery and not as smooth. Should I of adjusted the suspension, or should I of lower psi on tires? Almost lost a few filling and had arm pump like mad. Thanks!

I have a question I can not find the answer anywhere. I can get 2018 36 fit4 for $400 and 2019 36 grip2 for $950. Does it worth the $550 difference?

Personally - feel even the GRIP1 on my Fox34 Performance feels more plush compared to Fox34 Factory FIT4 and Fox36 Factory RC2 that I test rode. GRIP1 is just missing the different adjustment settings - but for me - simple is better.
