Is a $500 Fox Factory rear shock worth it?

Is a Fox Float DPS Factory rear shock really worth it? How can I justify spending $500 to replace a Rockshox Deluxe Select shock that functions just fine?

Keep in mind you might need to use volume reducing spacers, to get the support and sensitivity you need. Lower the pressure plusher it is, but easier it buttoms out and less support you have, but by reducing the volume you increase the support, thus can run lower pressure. But some shocks use two air seperate chambers you can pump up, these shocks don't. But the ones that do allow you to do the same using air pressure which eliminates deflating the shock and installing spacers every time you do an adjustment and need to test it. So you can do it easily on the trail. Only need a shock pump.

There is absolutely no way the shock alone can make you THAT much slower. Most likely you were just tired on the second lap.

Normally you can go nearly equal fast on the descent with a hardtail or a fully. But on the HT you become earlier tired.

Your RS rear shock´s maybe a little too harsh, but I dont think that´s the only reason for the loss of nearly 30 seconds to the Fox Factory rear shock.

I do like the medium/trail setting on the Fox. I use it when I'm trying to conserve energy on long climbs. I know Rockshox has a similar one but I haven't tried it.

Gotta try that Saga test loop one of these days. Great improvising on the tools you did there.👍

Got my 03 Jekyll 1000 with a lefty and fox float r. Bike looks and feels brand new despite the age. Fox float is amazing, can’t imagine how nice a modern one is. Also my lockout finally stopped working after years so might have to do a rebuild

Thanks for this video. It killed my urge to upgrade for no good reason.
