I don't think one is better than the other. ETS2 is European trucking, with totally different vehicles and trailers. Towns and cities are closer, and the roads are more varied. ATS is larger trucks, long highways and fewer garage locations. I own both, play both, and on one day I love ATS, and the next I want ETS2

I personally enjoy ETS 2 more cause of the ferry connections, but ATS has beautiful scenery!

I'd love to see an Asian or Australian or African or South American truck simulator one day!

As a trucker in America, it's cool to play ETS2 and get a different perspective, but I usually end up back in ATS with an 18 speed. Might change since I'm a local driver now. But as it stands, both games are great.

Your International can only hit 91 MPH, try a Cascadia with DD16 600Hp and the DT12OA, you can hit 100 MPH+ with that truck.
By the way, these 2 games are essentially a same game, using a shared graphics and physics engine, the differences are the maps and trucks, which are modeled very realistic. So the real differences between these 2 games does not lie on the games themselves, but on the differences of Europe and American driving and economic environments, laws and regulations, truck manufacturers and the actual truck models that are being offered in each continent (and their characteristics of course).
In conclusion, apart from the fact that ETS 2 has a bigger map and larger selection of trucks since it has been around longer than ATS, the reason to prefer one game over another comes down to just personal preference of either America or Europe as geographical continents.

It seems like ETS2 is more popular than ATS, steam stadistics says it all. However I prefer ATS trucks...maybe cause I was born in this part of the world. Not used to see the european trucks but they are also very cool.

I love both, ETS2 is more of a personnal training for me as I am doing my trucker’s license. But ATS is just amazing on how you can relax and enjoy the scenery!

I like that the lights are on the opposite side of the intersection in ATS so you can see them without stopping at a certain point and looking right. I also like being able to turn right on a red.

I've started with ATS and I liked it so much, I could'nt resist buying ETS too. Now I can't choose wich one I should play first. But it does'nt matter which one you choose because it never get's boring:)
SCS has done a great Job and I'm excited to see new Maps, Trucks and Trailers.
PS: I'm actually not a trucker, but a train driver from Dresden, Germany :D

I have both, and enjoy both for different moods. ETS2 has slower speed limits, and straight roads, I find it more relaxing, trucks turn tighter, but roads are tighter
ATS has higher speed limits, more involved roads. Trucks have longer wheelbases
Both I play modded so senics are amazing regardless. ETS2 I play in automatic, as most modern euro trucks are auto
ATS I play manual w/ clutch. I also find ETS2 hardest parts are getting into companies/driving through tight city roads
Whereas ATS your challenges will be more alike open road turning road

They are two great games. But I like the ATS more for its great variety of biome. In ETS2, I find everything very "similar". It could be because the biome is more mountainous most of the time. In ATS, we have a wide variety of biomes. I just think it's time for CSC to put dynamic weather in addition to rain, but also with snow in a certain part of the country.

in Brazil we have the same truck models that are used in Europe, so that's why I'm more familiar with ETS2, but both are excellent games. I had a good time playing 18 Wheels Of Steel Haulin too.

Both games run off the same game engine. The devs did this so optimizing it on one game could be easily applied to the other. The texture of the roads is different because most roads in Europe are asphalt while roads in the American west especally in places that are hot are made from concrete. This will change after they introduce more midwestern and eastern states in the future as American roads east of the Mississippi are made from asphalt due to the use of salt during winter months. Concrete wouldn't last long if exposed to it.

Even though I've played ETS 2 longer than ATS, but they're both really great examples of traveling and driving and hauling cargo.

As a person who sunk hours into both. I personally love ATS for their trucks (I may be bias cause I'm American), plus beautiful scenery. However, I'd say ETS 2 is the best. It's been out longer, has more DLCs, Trucks, a Bigger Map, and even the mod support of Promods makes the map 50x larger. Also, multiplayer purposes such as TruckersMP or Convoys, you'll get more players with ETS 2.

Edit: Side note, the reason I like ETS 2 as well; alongside promods. Is because I usually like a challenge, so I love very tight roads that are usually difficult to traverse.

They're technically the same, using the shared graphics and physics engine it is a matter of preference on where you want to drive.

One day, I would like to see World Truck Simulator which combines both game and maps+trucks from other continents.
I'll buy it even if it's more expensive than ETS+ATS

Mexico and Canada need to be added to ATS. I know we have mods, but I just think it should be a part of the base game. I enjoy ETS more because it has more stops and the roads are a little bit different in each country.

As a Vanilla game with DLC's (except painjobs) ATS is leaps and bounds ahead of ETS2 for me. The road Network feels like i've always imagined it to feel like since watching Convoy, SatB etc. You have proper truckstops in ATS, weigh bridges, forests, Deserts. All these things make ATS a better game out of the box. However ETS with mods. Grand Utopia, Kriechbaum's sounds... actually that's all I need nowadays to make the game great to play and that's the one I play the most.
