How I Lost My Job To AI

In this video, I discuss how I lost my job as a copywriter to AI technology. Despite my initial enthusiasm for AI, its advancement led to my unemployment. After witnessing the capabilities of GPT-3, my employer replaced me, leaving me jobless. I attempted to find new work, but faced continuous rejections as companies favored automation over human employees. I've tried upskilling in areas like 3D modeling and game design, but haven't found success. This video shares my personal journey and reflections on the impact of AI on employment, and I invite viewers to share their experiences in the comments.

Hi everyone, I wanted to clarify a few things from the video. English isn’t my first language, so if it seemed like I contradicted myself or used the words “quit” and “lost my job” interchangeably, it’s because I wasn’t super focused while speaking and made some errors. I’m Lebanese, and after I left my job, my family had some savings, and my brother and sister found work. This support allowed me to pursue my passions without the immediate pressure of finding another job. I understand how fortunate and privileged I am to have had their support.

Also, the events I discussed spanned over two years, but for the three to four years before that, I was solely responsible for paying all the bills and taking care of my family. I also want to clarify that I will not be continuing to learn 3D modeling. The reason I initially started with 3D modeling was to aid my game design skills, but I realize both of these jobs can be automated by AI. Therefore, I am now focusing on opening my own business and working on my YouTube channel. I am also planning to learn something that won’t be replaced by AI.

Thank you all for your comments and support.

The real lesson: Never quit your job until you have another one. Yes, even if you hate it.

Dude you can't lose your job to AI if you don't have one!

Ai can generate 3d models instantly in blender with python codes.

So this guy took an AI class and dropped out of college because he thought that coding was going to be obsolete, then proceeded to choose a career that relies on text generation.
Gets fired because of AI then gets a job and quits because he didn't like it despite him clearly knowing the job market was bad, then chooses another skill that is already being generated by AI to spend all his time doing.
I'm speechless.

Everyone is in the same position, they just haven’t suddenly realized it yet.

IT jobs involving complex management of hardware and software are pretty hard to replace. Until small comapnies can afford robots, many years will pass.

Hey, as someone who's been in the 3D game for a while, I'd say focus on mastering Unreal Engine instead of just 3D modeling. Trust me, the modeling scene is gonna change big time. With all this AI generating 3D models, it's only a matter of time before they catch up in quality. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't fully taken off yet. It seems like a no-brainer that AI could handle what modelers do now. Just giving you the heads-up!

Man You should learn some completely new skill NOT 3D modelling. Even if you do learn it, It will take 5-6 years to be really good at it but AI will take 3D modelling in 1-2 years! And stop doing YouTube. YouTube is very risky and takes too much time.

Consider this YouTube "career" a hobby. Get a real job and stop quitting at things. That's why you're in the current position you're in. At your age, I recommend a trade like electrician or plumbing.

I started using AI at my job, because I can use it much better than someone that doesn't have knowledge on my niche. I think we must master the tool and demonstrate increase on productivity, be the person with AI they need to hire, not just the person. If you only write a blog a day, write 3 blogs a day and become a reviewer and researcher. AI can help you but someone still has to prompt instructions. I'm a creative and as much as I don't like having to learn marketing and business, now I have to for my own sake... our jobs are going to be more about decision making rather than technical skill.

A few pieces of advice from watching this... learn broadly. How to sell your value in any field, tie it into your personal strengths even if you have to exaggerate them. Practice repackaging your experience and multiple skills in a custom way depending on the needs of the situation. For example, you can package your value around AI, and companies are as varied as people so not all of them will see through what you're doing even if you're inflating your value a bit.

The problem fundamentally, is that if you only settle for offering value on a surface level (like I can code, hire me... or I can 3D model, hire me) then they are going to say "AI can do that for us." But if you instead sell your worth as someone on top of AI, using AI in your work, and bringing a human mind to the work in terms of picking out and sorting its production, inserting your own ideas that AIs are less likely to come up with, then you have a drastically better chance to come out on top. Even "being the guy who uses AI for a company" is technically a position a company needs.

I'm not really much professionally besides a programmer, and I don't have a university degree. But I've recently been offered a job to specifically work with AI at a company, because I'm very passionate about it and I was able to communicate what I've learned and sell myself around the topic. I think that's what everyone have to do regardless of their field, whether the new trend is AI or something else.

Copywriting, as you say, is dead... yeah. But writing probably isn't, because writing is just communication through text, and in some contexts it's even broader (like if you're a scriptwriter for TV, it ends up not being about the text at all.) Writing is a core skill that becomes a universal strength of yours. You can apply it in so many different ways, and make it a part of anything you do going forward.

I think you really just have to start thinking outside the box, man. And I think it will work out fine for you if you do. Best of luck!

I get times are tough man but look, all this video really says is that you dropped out and quit your job and somehow still think you're above getting a regular job like anyone else. Shit sucks but lets not pretend you can't do anything but sit around and play video games all day instead of feeding your family. Retail, food, service; these are not fun jobs but you have put yourself in the situation you are in for the most part here.

summary: he is a fired copywriter. I told people this on Linkedin, there will still be demmand for copywriters from now on but it will be 1-2 seniors working with 20 machines writing the perfect copy. This is the so called AI efficiency replacing clerical jobs. People will have to get new skills to survive.

Bro took 1 class (!!!) in computer science on AI and immediately thought "that's it, AI is gonna replace programmers, no point in studying in anymore, I quit college"
Bro goes to work as a copywriter.
Bro sees ChatGPTv3 public release and thinks "it's pretty good, but I'm not sure it will replace copywriters, I think AI can't be creative".

This comment is not about programmers vs copywriters, I'm just saying that your risk recognition is all over the place if 1 CS class made you think "programmers are replaceable soon" and ChatGPT made you think "copywriters are not yet replaceable".
