Guys, she's 57. She's not on a deep soul searching career path. Just looking to pay the bills. Hopefuly she can retire in another 10 years.

Most times is the best thing when you loose job. I know it does not seem like it. When one door closes, another opens.

Got the notification and coincidentally just got let go Friday and I know their reasoning was BS, and another Oregonian going thru it. But this was helpful. Taking the lesson as a blessing!

Everybody keeps saying find another job, there's so many places hiring. I've been looking at changing jobs and all the places claiming to be hiring aren't paying much, don't offer any benefits or full time. Just cause these companies are hiring doesn't mean they are good jobs.

They laid you off, not fired - difference is you can use them as a reference and who is at fault (laid off is their restructuring or their fault, fired means your fault).

High tech loves diverse background, Laura. Go for it!

The video also shows why reskilling/upskilling yourself and having a solid network are two most important things in one's career.

I would suggest she seek a job at a big Bank doing some sort of customer support or document management. She sounds like she would have a great temperament for that kind of work. They’d be lucky to get her.

Laura, you are worth more than your job, their loss! I mean it. They did you a favor, I’ve been there. NEXT and I love your heart ♥️

Grieve the loss first. Take a couple days off and decide what you want to do then.

What ever happened to the words "laid off"? When I was young you only got "Fired" if you did something wrong. If they didn't need you or didn't want you, you were "laid off". Seems to me this gal was simply laid off.

How can you compare losing a job is like losing a loved one, there is zero comparison. You can get another job, you can't get your loved one back. That is the most idiotic statement i have ever heard.
