Actually, Tywin would have let Robb bend the knee and be warden of the North. He only butchered Targaryen children to win a favor from Robert.
He said something along the lines:" make your enemies bend the knee, a then help them stand up"

the casting is impeccable in game of thrones. they really do look like mother and son. they deserved better.
