Playing as Ritcher after all the bloodshed, seeing him going home to see his mother, and her saying encouraging things to him made me cry.

Really liked that short moment between Evan and Ritcher when he tells Evan the ticket is for his mother, Evan a family man having money problems for his own family promises Ritcher to get the ticket since he understands how important family is for him as well, dont know how a game about mass murder can have such warm hearted moments

Richter never asked for this.

Richter was a good boy.

I remember the first time i played this game, at the part where Ritcher's mom says to him "is it another job interview?, I'm sure you'll get it this time, You're such a bright young man, They're sure missing out" i just couldn't stop crying, i can't understand how a videogame fueled by ultra-violence could make me cry this way

God I love this song. It really has that whole "reflection on your life and what has lead you to this point in time" kinda vibe to it.

The song made me change my life around when I was watching the sun set over the horizon at the beach. 3 years sober, I could keep it up.

Richter went from my most hated character (HM1) to my second favorite in the course of one line of dialogue.
"No need to fight it then."

I'm so happy that killing Richter isn't canon in the first game

Jacket did it because he wanted to avenge his friend.
Biker did it because he felt it was fun, but later to find the truth.
The fans did it because they wanted to follow Jacket.
Jake did it because they were..."patriotic."
Pardo did it because he was a killer.
Beard did it because he was a soldier.
Evan did it because he wanted to find the truth.
Son did it because he wanted to be like his dad.
Martin did it because it was a movie.
The henchman did it because he needed to make money.
Richter did it because he had to protect his mom.

But nobody asked for any of this.

Don't worry, mom. I'm just going to the bar to meet up with a friend."
Oh, that's lovely dear. I was afraid that you were a bit of a loner, like your dad. Maybe you could invite your friend over for a cup of tea sometime? It's been a while since we had any guests."
Yeah,

Me and a friend of mine were big on the whole hotline Miami series, we would always challenge each other at who beat a level faster or only using your fists or stuff like that.
He sadly passed away two years ago, and I still have the paper we used to keep our records, now listening to this really brings back happy memories, thanks G-man
Edit for those wondering: it's been a while now, I've managed to cope well after some time, but it was rough at first.
Also, he passed away because of a car crash involving him and the other driver, it was purely accidental, no drugs or alcohol were involved, at least the other driver didn't die, it was ruled to be not anyone's fault and the other person has recovered well

Writer, Beard and Richter did nothing wrong and deserved none of this. Real human beans and real heroes.

'Are they after me?'
"No... This is much worse.
You don't have much time left. Nobody does."
"You know what they say about good times, don't you?"
'Yeah.
Good times never last.'
"...Leaving this world is not as scary as it sounds."

this game is a masterpiece. Everyone has their motives for violence, and even their human side. You can just feel the trauma emanating from every pore on every character. And even the "good guys" like beard or writer can commit the worst attrocities.

the most genuine depressing series of events in a video game

My mom recently came down with a currently unidentified illness. For the first 2 weeks, she was unable to do almost anything without help. I'm the person at home the most, so I took it upon myself to be there for her whenever she needed it. I stopped playing online games in case she suddenly called out for help and I needed to stop what I was doing. I was constantly in the kitchen, making breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When I wasn't, I made sure to be on top of things like making her coffee, getting her medicine, helping her stand up and off the couch, checking in on her in case she needed anything, and sitting next to her whenever she wanted to ramble about the dream she had last night or a show she's been watching. She's thankfully gotten a lot better since then, and around that same time is when I replayed Hotline Miami 1 and 2. Playing through Richter's chapters again made me see it in a whole new light. I already liked his character, but I just found this new connection with him that I never had before. It all made me so emotional, and when he accepted his death at the end of the game, I genuinely teared up, even though I'd seen the ending many times before.
Thank you, Jonaton Soderstrom and Dennis Wedon. These games was already a big part of my life growing up, and it seems it's continuing to be an influence as time goes on.

Hotline Miami 1 makes you hate Richter.
Hotline Miami 2 makes you understand and feel bad for him.

You know what they say about good times, right Richter?
