------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is the brutal conclusion to the Hotline Miami saga, set against a backdrop of escalating violence and retribution over spilled blood in the original game. Follow the paths of several distinct factions – each with their own questionable methods and uncertain motivations – as unforeseen consequences intersect and reality once again slips back into a brilliant haze of neon and bloodshed.

Blistering combat against punishing opposition will require intense focus as new variables, weapons, and methods of execution are introduced throughout the struggle. Let the striking colors of an unmistakable visual style wash over as you meticulously cut down those that would stand between you and the ultimate meaning behind the massacre. This is the finale, this is the unquestionable end.

Relentless Hostilities: Adjust combat techniques as the narrative shifts between factions and brings unique variations to a familiar approach along with new weapons, movements, and melee attacks.

Enthralling Soundtrack: Over forty pounding tracks from dozens of artists punctuate the savage conflict and bring the larger scale of your actions into focus. New artists join returning favorites like M|O|O|N, Perturbator, Jasper Byrne, Scattle, and El Huervo for an incredible audio massacre.

Custom Level Editor: Design custom levels using characters, enemies, weapons and music tracks from the game and share your creations with others online via Steam Workshop. [COMING SPRING 2015]

i love that Richter mistakes Richard for jacket, as he's the only one to see jacket in that uniform

The end conversation between Beard and Richard always hit me the hardest.

The first line Beard says in this scene is one of the first lines Richard says in the first game.
_"We've met before, haven't we?"_

everyone's talking about beards convo, but Richter's is my favourite. the guy gets to apologize and it helps his character even more

What I actually find sweet about this scene is that beard is the only that seems to understand it and that he knows he is dead.

*”I’m the opposite of why you’re writing your book. I’m something you will never understand.”*
Always gives me chills.

The last exchange between Richard and Beard makes my brain hurt.
Beard is the character that appears when Jacket, (the player) is in a state of relief and comfort (having beaten a stressful level) 9/10 it isn't actually beard talking to him he just sees beard as a coping mechanism of his mental trauma. The face of man who saved his life in Hawaii makes him feel at ease. Makes the horror of what he just did go away.
Could that be some kind of connection as to why they recognize eachother? What a wonderful mindfuck this game is.

Richard's conversation with Beard, Richter and Evan was sad af.

Pardo though... Damn, when even Richard doesn't get you, you know you are fucked up.

It makes sense why Richard doesn't understand Pardo, and vice versa. As a messenger of Fate, he appeals to the conscience of the characters who know deep down their motives for committing acts of violence will be made meaningless by their consequences. The Hitman slays for his girlfriend who betrays him, the Son fights to re-establish his dad's gang which gets toppled again, Evan risks his life for a book that won't be read, Beard served America and both are haplessly defeated, Richter obeys orders to protect his mother and helps cause a war that will kill her anyway, and so on.

However, Pardo is an insane psychopath, which is why he never sees Richard during his life and gets angry and confused at being 'judged'. He's an impulse murderer with no sense of wrong and thus no real sense of consequence, tautologically driven to kill for the sake of killing and becoming a famous killer. That he died BEFORE he accomplished infamy is, to his ego, deliberate injustice by a higher power, when in fact his deeds (which have little impact on the main plot) were as utterly inconsequential to the universe as they were to him.

I only really felt bad for Richter and Beard in the game.

"I am the opposite of why you are writing your book" To this day, I still haven't understood what he meant by that.

Cool details that I only noticed upon re-watching;
- Richard is sitting in front of two dead plants, which ties into the whole "Richard is the Grim Reaper" theory.
- Mark is closer to Richard than any of the other Fans, and since he is the first Fan to die in "Death Wish" (and again tying into the Richard/Grim Reaper theory), that could mean that he is closer to death than any of the others.
- Alex is the only person in the room who is standing up, which mirrors the intro of "Down Under", where she is the only Fan at the party who isn't sitting down.
- Ash is subtly aiming an Uzi at the Son the whole sequence.
- Martin is gripping both of his chair's armrests like an electric chair, just like he appears on the poster of "Final Cut". He is also looking directly at Manny the whole time, which can be significant if you subscribe to the theory that Martin isn't actually real and is simply a figment of Manny's imagination.
- The Henchman and the Son are separated by some money that is strewn on the floor. The Henchman is on the Son's payroll.
- Jake is the only person on the bottom half of the table who is wearing a mask.
- Beard is sitting directly in front of the projector, and since Richard plays the film reel (which, of course, is the game) after Beard dies, that could be symbolism for how Jacket began his murder sprees (and, by extension, multiple of the second game's subplots) after Beard was killed in the bombing of San Francisco.

this game is so hauntingly beautiful in ways i dont think any of us saw coming when we first played it

This cutscene, and most of the other ones with him imply that he's been trying to make these people realize their mistakes, though he is happy to keep them around while they deny their fates and the chance to become better people. He is the personification of death itself, saying "I wish we could've met under different circumstances to Beard" while acting callous towards the self-righteous. Everyone in the game is trapped in a cycle reminiscent of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, reliving their hell again and again until they realize that they should've chosen a better future. Unfortunately, as hard mode's opening suggests, there is no realization, and therefore, no atonement.

I think the reason why this "Richard" or a figure of Death looks much like Jacket is because Jacket himself has affected each of these peoples lifes in one way or another (Jake I'm not so sure how he did but I'm sure theres a way to explain it) Pardo wanted to be more popular than Jacket since he was the Miami Mutilator, The Fans wanted to BE just like Jacket since they wanted to join 50 Blessings, Beard was Jackets friend and Richard even wishes that they met another way, The Sons father was killed by Jacket and destroyed most of their crime syndicate, Henchmen once again not so sure except that Jacket killed off the organization, I guess for whoever was in the Midnight Animal is since they both wear and commit horrible acts of voilence in masks, Evan is writing about Jacket, and Richter of course killed Hooker, and even in this cutscene Richter apologizes about what he did to Jacket. not sure if I missed anybody but thats everybody that was at the Table in this scene, and this is why I think Richard looks like Jacket

Death, is close, and you can't evict it.

Here’s what I think

Richard is normal in the beginning, standard old Richard.

But when beard talks to him he becomes jacket.
