Shocked that the Craptiva didn't even warrant a mention!

Our 2007 Nissan X-Trail T30 with the 2.5L petrol engine has been faultless for 311K+ km. It's pretty solid and gets a bit of rough handling sometimes from our younger family members.
It's all about maintenance! Replace a hose here, a radiator there, a rocker gasket up there: it's very easy to look after!

I love the honesty in these videos, unfortunately some people just buy with their hear not their head.

We might be crazy but we bought a brand new Renault Arkana - the wife wanted an SUV and I desperately wanted something that at least didn't look like every other SUV (and have a hot hatch as the other car) and love something different. We absolutely know about the depreciation but the engine is the same one shared with the Nissan Qashqai and it's built in South Korea. It's been brilliant in the 12 months we've owned it. Rock solid build quality (so far). 4 more years of warranty and then we might be in trouble but it's great owning something even slightly interesting rather than going with the crowd. At least we know we'll get 5 years of decent motoring with that warranty.

I'm a previous jeep cherokee 2015 owner, and can confirm that you can get one that has zero issues. I bought one with 100k km on the clock and sold it with 180k km. Loved every moment of owning it, just needed to upgrade to something larger. There's probably a lot of lemons in the bucket but there's bloody good ones too! Make sure its been looked after

I'd go with a Mazda CX-5 Turbo variant. Or a Lexus RX350. 6 cylinder variant.

Love these comparative videos these are the best! Common themes for the uninformed - avoid at all cost CVTs full stop - they should be outlawed. As for diesels they can be great but cost;y to maintain. Being someone who always until 20 years ago worked on cars myself - buy a petrol normally aspirated non-turbo change the plugs, oil, and filters, every year even fuel filter and you will rarely go wrong. Almost 50 years of driving and car ownership on 3 continents...these guys talk sense, so refreshing in the 21st C.

Currently in 10th year of owning a FWD ST T32. Mechanically perfect, never had an issue, to be fair that's probably helped by it having under 100 000km. Only compliant I can give is the CVT is shuddery in low speed/taking off. Went from owning a solid Camry to the Xtrail, feel a bit cautious after watching this haha.

Fully agree evade anything German, French, and Nissan ish related unless you plan is to start looking for replacement in 12mths 😉👍

With French cars, you need to choose a diesel engine. They have bad petrol engines but good reputation for diesel, that's why their diesel engines are used even by some other manufactures. For example, in Europe Peugeot 3008 with 2.0 hdi engine is a good choice. This well know old-school engine, with 180hp and low mpg.

My other half owns a Haval (Jolion). 2021 model, ex demo (had 3000ks when he bought it). Build quality is great, terrible driving experience with all the garbage saftey tech, but a couple of Kangaroos fixed that. Also, the DCT is terrible, it's so damn jerky.. But, it has plenty of get up and go, it's not terrible on fuel, its build quality is excellent, and it's been damn reliable. Currently has about 80, 000 ks on the clock. (Goes from Nowra to Armidale once a month, roughly 1300km round trip, plus all the driving it does in between)
