How to find the surface area of a 3D pyramid

👉 Learn how to find the volume and the surface area of a pyramid. A pyramid is a 3-dimensional object having a polygon as its base and triangular surfaces converging at a single point called its apex. A pyramid derives its name from the shape of its base, i.e. a pyramid with a triangular base is called a triangular pyramid while a pyramid with a square base is called square pyramid, etc.

The volume of a pyramid is given by one-third the area of its base multiplied by its height (the distance between its base and the apex). While the total surface area of a pyramid is given by the sum of the areas of all the plane shapes making up the pyramid.

The problem I was solving noted that we had a regular prism with all of the sides of the prism equal to one another. Great question, do not take things for granted!

what if the base is a triangle too? would I just use the same kind of formula I used for the faces of the pyramid or do something else?

The moment you split up the pyramid into a net. I instantly understood, thanks! Totally going to ace my math test tomorrow.
