"The chief executive of UnitedHealth Group told investors Friday that he "appreciates" the Biden administration's decision to more slowly implement its crackdown on overbilling in Medicare Advantage, a privately run, government-funded program that the Minnesota-based insurance behemoth touted as a key profit driver in its newly released first quarter earnings report.

UnitedHealth, one of the largest Medicare Advantage providers in the U.S., reported $91.9 billion in revenue for the first three months of 2023—15% growth year-over-year—and more than $8 billion in earnings from operations, exceeding analysts' expectations."*

Not surprised in the slightest. This is what happens when you privatize essential services. They don't care about anything but profit.

I am so proud of the US healthcare system. It is one of the most expensive system in the world, but at the same time the least efficient system in the world. Yeah go US

All private companies funded by public money should be required to operate as not-for-profit. Our tax dollars should not fund profiteers.

This is why healthcare should not be a business.

So, Andrew Witty goes from being the CEO of big pharma (GSK) to the private health care insurance industry and we expect him to act any differently? We need to get on board with the rest of the civilized 1st World countries and get far, far away from privatized health care.

This explains a part of why our healthcare is so high and how they can afford to buy our congress to prevent us from joining the rest of the world with universal, single payer healthcare.

I work in medical billing for a “nonprofit hospital” in Georgia. I can tell you that hospitals are side by side with insurers overcharging patients. I see patients getting overcharged thousands than they should pay and I’m told from management “our policy is not to tell patients they are overcharged, they have to find out on their own” after I tell the patients to request a refund from their overpayment

Why do they call them lobbyists? Call them what they really are “BRIBERS”.

Profiting from illness, injury, and psychological human damage sounds about as Amurican as it gets. They're objectively a terrible effing company, but it's working exactly as intended. It's so disgusting.

I have worked as a medical biller and treatment authorization specialist since 1984 and I can verify the information in this video. I have become so disgusted with the health insurance companies and how they constantly deny services to patients. Having to call patients to try to explain why coverage was denied is also hard. They get angry with me, but it is the health plan that refuses to approve the treatment even after I have provided every supporting document they have requested. People who who still hold onto the belief that America has the best health care system in the world are deluded. As long as we have a for profit health care model and politicians who prostitute themselves to wealthy donors and corporations things will not change and will probably get worse.

I’m a 70yo disabled veteran and former Corporate Pilot. I’m forced to take Medicare and I’m forced to pay for it also! As a disabled veteran I get all my medical treatment through the VA but I still have to pay for Medicare. Something must change!

And this is just 1 of the reasons why we should have national healthcare.

Great job Ana for educating consumers, including me, about Medicare Advantage and the private insurers exploiting the program.

Why is United health about to have pharmacy's over charge you for medicine. They tried to charge me 107.00 for a med that was on my pharmacy has on there 4 dollar list. When I asked why I was paying so much, they said to call my insurance. So I had my pharmacy change my label to not charge thru my insurance. And my drug was 12 dollars for three months supply. Just because I have a co pay cap for my insurance, they, insurance over charges until that co pay is paid. I can't afford it...someone this should be illegal.

Pay tax, receive free healthcare. That's the system that works great everywhere else. My wife and son had 11 days of intensive care when he was born. All free and brilliant. Thank you post-war UK socialist government!

Prior to the 1973 healthcare organization maintenance act, health care was not for profit in the United States. We should go back to that.

I once was billed $100 for a bandaid. I reported the situation and after several months, the bill disappeared.

That's not revenue. It's fruits of crime.
