The Russian military once again intercepted three military aircraft of the UK Royal Air Force over the Black Sea on July 25. According to the Russian defence ministry, three aerial targets, identified as an RC-135 spy plane and a pair of Eurofighter Typhoons, were detected approaching the Crimea border. Russia then immediately dispatched a Su-27 fighter jet to deal with the threat. Watch

I am British and come from a family long associated with the RAF.
However, US Global Hawk UAVs (and related types) have been supplying live data to Kiev since late 2022. This is active participation in the conflict and is the air equivalent of "boots on the ground".
Under the previous UK government and two reckless Secs State Defence, Wallace and Shapps, deployed 1 of our 3 RC-135 'Rivet Joint' spy planes to do the same job.
These very expensive Boeing aircraft were acquired for mainly Atlantic maritime patrol duties including SIGINT and the UK is contracted with other coastal states to undertake those specific duties, replacing the old Nimrods and the French and Danish MP aircraft pending renewal.
The 'Rivet Joint' is inferior to the Nimrod MR2A(see Lossiemouth French and Canadian input) which was formally retired in 2011 but still occasionally operates and the Nimrod MR4A was scrapped by the Cameron government in an act of wanton treachery.
Three RC-135s were purchased fro Boeing and immediately required engine replacement in addition to the expected radar and electronics suites being installed. This limited further orders and the RAF will not get any more. This is partly because the aircraft failed to detect Russian submarine movements in the Atlantic, hence MR2As being used in an undisclosed way when Canadian and French assets detected the submarines far out in the ocean.
RC-135 'Rivet Joint' planes typically have a crew of 30 operative and flight crew. US AUVs have no airborne crews.
I expected the new UK government to cease deployment on taking power, not least because the UK has no legal interests/assets in the Black Sea, the plane and its fighter escort of 2 Typhoon fighter bombers do not use transponders or ATC protocols and fly among some of the busiest civil aviation lanes in the world -- notably UK to Australasia.
IF the activities include live data to Kiev then the UK is, like the USA, participating in combat without the knowledge or consent of the British people.
Black Sea nations capable of shooting such spy/direction/participation in contravention of ID protocols or ForF measures should defend against belligerence and have duties of protection for civil aviation. Turkey and Russia have such capabilities and have Black Sea coasts.
Whereas downing a $billion UAV would cause protests by the spying nation or complicit organization no one would be killed. This does not apply to downing an RC-135 with at least 30 people on board.
Sane words from the sub-continent might prevail.

UK still thinks he's still a world dominant empire that can reconquer crimea like before. Then Russia was just beset with political and financial problem then. But its a different century now. You are just wanting to drag the other nato members to your provocation. Why your jets were in black sea? Is north atlantic and south atlantic not enough for you?
