Orchids in Our Midst

In this online gathering of Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, botanical artist Kathleen Marie Garness, a scientific affiliate with the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois) and with The Morton Arboretum (Lisle, Illinois), presents an overview of the orchid species that occur in Walworth County, Wisconsin and McHenry County, Illinois—the greater Hackmatack region. Following Kathleen’s presentation, Cathy Pollack, biologist with the US Fish & Wildlife Service, together with Laurie Ryan, plant ecologist with McHenry County Conservation District, describe the eastern prairie fringed orchid recovery program.
