I am happy to see a great video, from someone I happen to know. I am a Huntington Library & Gardens volunteer over 15years. I and many others helped to repot several 1000's of orchids that were donated to the Huntington. I have enjoyed going to the gardens with my Mom since I was a child over 60yrs

In hot humid areas of Florida, they also thrive without pots, hanging from trees. Of course it can get really cold in some areas in winter, so I’d protect them from the cold.

Thank you for sharing. We live in Philippines. I grow my phaleanopsis orchid in the branches of our tree. And they are fine.

Thank you for this I’ve seen others fuss too much cut things off and you are the only so smart and simple I bought a cheap pair from Walmart was pretty and started to die ! I left them alone mostly but took them out of the ugly cheap moss and plastic and just used orchid bark and soil and put them back with out the plastic and don’t wYer them for weeks at a time just mist spray and orchid food during the time they say you should and they bloomed back more beautiful and even more blooms growing multiple roots and vines now ❤😊

In the high desert West of Utah where I live the relative humidity is so low. If you don't use some sphagnum moss or coconut coir chips in your orchid mix it'll stay so dry you'll have to water every other day.

I used to do all this with my orchids. Two years of now flowers. Got annoyed with it a few months go and have left it outside….its thriving now 🤣 I’m pretty sure it just hates me

In my experience it depends how tightly you pack the moss. If it’s the long sphag and you don’t pack it down much it really dries out pretty quickly

i am completely dumbfounded. i was taught to always plant orchids in transparent pots and never to cover the whole root system with bark/soil (especially so densely), because it’s the roots specifically that need sunlight.. was all of that wrong? was i lied to? 😅

The medium used to pot Orchids in and how often you should water them depends on the climate you live in. There is no one size fits all for Orchids. Based on my climate, if I followed the advise of this video, potted my Orchids in bark only (no sphagnum moss) and only watered once a month instead of twice a week in summer and once a week in winter, my Orchids will dehydrate, get shrivelled up roots and die.
