After watching PC users enjoy the LG C1 48" 4K TV as their computer monitor, I had to try it to see if it could be done on a Mac. Here are my findings.

You have to switch the HDMI-Input mode from "HDMI" to "PC" on the dashboard setting to fix the laggy mouse problem! :)

Homeboy didn't even try to use the TV settings to fix the issue and don't even acknowledge the comments that would help solve it, geez

I use this with a 55” c1 and m1 mini, no issues, just have to use the game settings, just as good as the built in displays response on macbooks

For everyone that is having trouble getting 120hz to a OLED TV - You need to connect by DP 1.4, it's the only way to get more than 60hz on a macbook pro connected to a TV. I've purchased the WD50 Thunderbolt Dock that as a DP 1.4 output. I've connect the dock by thunderbolt to my macbook pro M1 Max then from the dock DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 on the TV LG C2 OLED 42"

You can switch off the auto dimming using a service remote, going into the service menu. I have been using an LG C1 48 inch with my 2013 Mac pro for almost 1.5 years and it's been fantastic at 60hz, no lagging or jitter but this is not easy to set up, it takes a lot of playing around with the inputs and settings on the C1 to find the right ones. I am going from the Thunderbolt 2 port to a mini displayport to HDMI dongle and then a 60hz compatible HDMI 2 cable to the C1.

As long as you move back far enough, the monitor it works fantastic. This is key. The other is to be cautious of burn in potential by hiding icons and taskbars.

how to use the m1max on usb-c to hdmi 2.1 in 4k120

As others have said, setting the input name/icon on the TV to PC fixes the mouse judder - its not the 60hz causing the problem.
It appears there is absolutely no way to get more than 60hz out of a M1 mac's HDMI port. Display port (via a usb-c to DisplayPort cable) will go upto 144hz though.

The limitation may not be on all external displays, just HDMI. A lot of mac users are able to get 120hz via Thunderbolt-Displayport cable. It is unfortunate that HDMI doesn't work. I was considering an LG OLED as my Mac display as well.

no mention about screen mirroring from the Mac as this is an option to use without needing an HDMI connection from a Mac

I’m glad you put the monitor review with Mac M1. Because I was thinking about exactly what you demonstrated. Thank you. Also, I think you are so handsome!! 😍

Good video. I have M1 max macbook pro and I have been using it with OWC thunderbolt 4 dock and able to get 4k at 120 hz if I connect to display port 1.4 on my monitor to OWC USB C port. I am planning to buy LG C1 but not sure if I can still get 4k at 120 hz if I connect USB C( From OWC thunderbolt 4 dock) to LG C1 HDMI 2.1. If someone can try and let me know if this would work.

Having some experience with these issues, my mac issues went away with the C1 OLED when I used a proper HDMI cable that supports 4k/120. Cables matter especially for 120hz refresh rates. USB-C Dongles have not worked well for me. My issue with the LD is color accuracy and calabration issues. Thinking of switching to an ASUS OLED.

You have to change the TV Mode to PC. I use my Mac on a CX and have no problems with that

I have the Mac Studio and the lg c2 42” and no matter that I do, I can’t get it to do 10 bit. Doing everything the right way and it’s ycbcr420 8 bit. That’s ridiculous to have £3k+ worth of equipment and be gimped to 8 bit on a 10 bit panel. 60hz is fine as I do video editing. Press the green button 7 times on the lg remote and it shows you clearly it’s running 4k 60 at 8 bit

exactly my setup but mine hangs on a ergotron hx with a MBA and next to that is my gaming pc.
The Arm is mounted to a electric desk from fully. Home office ftw :-)

Do you have an updated version of this with the M2 Pro Chip which is supposed to offer better performance with 4k & 8K?

A year later, 2023, is there a TV that works any better out of the box as a monitor replacement? It may be time for a new review.
