No salt for you - exploring coastline environmental geophysics. #unbearthsciences

Environmental Geophysics is ideal for the student interested in the use of geophysical methods to image and understand the properties and processes in the top ~100 meters our planet Earth. This is the region of the Earth that impacts humans and our community.
In this video UNB graduate Eric Mott, talks about his passion for environmental geophysics.
Saltwater intrusion into coastal aquifers can contaminate drinking water supply of coastal communities in New Brunswick and worldwide. We can also consider saltwater intrusion for the sustainability of coastal ecosystems depending on surface and groundwater flow. The interface between freshwater and seawater in coastal aquifers is highly dynamic and is sensitive to changes that can be measured and monitored by geophysical equipment.
Though saltwater intrusion is a naturally occurring process, it can also be influenced by human activity. Saltwater intrusion is also expected to become a more serious issue as our climate changes. As Eric explains, greater knowledge of Atlantic Canada’s vulnerability to saltwater intrusion, particularly under conditions of a changing climate, can lead to a fulfilling and rewarding field of study and career.
