Trying Emergency Food from Costco's Prepper Bucket - Does It Taste Good?

Whether you've always been curious about how emergency food tastes OR if you're a prepper looking for the perfect "doomsday" dinner bucket, I think we can all learn a thing or two from this taste test!

I tried an old cracker from a 30 year old MRE bucket a few years back for a video on Clevver, and it actually wasn't a horrible experience. However, it did get me thinking: What would I actually do in the event of an emergency? Do I have enough water storage? Do I have a generator? And DO I HAVE ENOUGH FOOD!

Luckily, I have never encountered a major natural disaster in Los Angeles since I have lived here, BUT I did live through many power outages during hurricane season growing up in NC. So, I do know how quickly things can get serious in an emergency situation. I do not "technically" consider myself a prepper but after all of the wild events going on in our world I have finally decided to invest in a few survival gadgets to have on hand. I will share below all of the things I have purchased in my survival kit so far and I will also link this Costco Readywise Food Bucket below as well. If you are NOT a Costco member, don't worry. I will also share other retailers who sell Readywise Food Buckets.

Do let me know in the comments if you like content like this? And if you want me to explore more emergency food storage solutions? OR if you have any other prepper tips or emergency must haves that I need to add to my basement bunker! lol

We all want a part 2 and if you can't fit the rest in the second part. I'm pretty sure that we are not going to mind seeing a third part. I love all of your video's, I first found you on clevver style and I thought after watching that for a couple months if you had a YouTube channel of your own and ever since then I've been hooked on all of your video's.

I’d like a part 2. I thought they were gonna be kinda like MREs the army uses lol the crust of the pot pie is my favorite part too. With some of the sauce on it. Yum I haven’t had one in forever.

There are other manufacturers who make similar buckets that contain many, smaller, just-add-water packets. Usually the packets are in 2 portion sizes.

The alternatives are more expensive, but instead of chicken flavored menu items their equivalent will actually contain chicken, beef lasagna will actually contain beef, etc.

There are many YouTube videos which compare the taste of the freeze dried products between multiple manufacturers. ReadyWise usually doesn’t do well.

Perhaps you might try a similar test on a Mountain House bucket. It will cost more, but there is the old adage about getting what you pay for.

My husband and I are "preppers." We each keep what we call "go bags" in the closet with clothes, ready meals, matches, weather radio etc. I inventory it about every few months just to remind myself what I have in it and in case I need to add anything.

Get a camp stove for preparation in a power outage.

A few ideas for a baby prepper as in, I don’t expect to last in an extended situation but in a blizzard or summer storm I’ll be okay. The thing I’ve heard from big peppers is that you need better protein sources than these food kits offer. So, freeze dried meats if you’re looking for long term. We just stock canned chicken and tuna and rotate what we have on hand.

Part 2!!!! My husband and I have prepped our own rice and beans, but I've been so curious if these boxes are worth it:)

Omz Erin girl, ahaha, you are too funny!! This was such a wild card video, but so fun!! You HAVE to make at least another part of this!! I am beyond intrigued!!

Love this video! Yes you need lots of water for cooking, cleaning, hygiene, drinking etc. You're definitely going to want canned food you don't have to cook. In an emergency you may not be able to or want to cook.

I have one. I think of it as a starch bucket. Pair it up with some canned costco chicken and you're good to go. Thanks for sharing the content. I never opened mine so its nice to see it for realz.

GIRL. The freeze dried sour skittles are SO GOOD!!! I picked a bag up from a local gas station on a whim, and it's my new guilty pleasure.

You may think that you will eat anything in an emergency but never underestimate how much an good enjoyable meal can help your state of mind.

Definitely need a part 2. If you're going to buy more buckets (of any brand), tape a 4 × 1/4" wooden dowel or bolt to the side of the bucket to aid in pulling the strap off. Arthritic fingers need extra help.

I was excited when I saw it mainly for hurricane season when power goes out. But since power is a necessity I will pass this video was very good

Yes to a part 2 or 3 if needed. Will subscribe. I have a few of those boxes. They are more like a family pack sizes but their idea of a serving is not always ours. For sure have flavour enhancers (salt pepper) on hand for emergency food. You really have to invest into pricey ready to eat freeze dried pouches for quick on the go. I find canned foods like stew, pasta, beans, chunky soups, meats etc are great because they can be eaten cold out of the can if need be. Store them in 5 gallon pails with a dry pack to prevent rust. They last well past B/B dates if stored proper and the as seal is not compromised.

This was fascinating. I had no idea emergency food kits like this exist. I thought people that consider themselves preppers just stock up on canned goods and so on. Do they do that too? Oh, do a video of what you would keep in your emergency kit!

You have to do a part 2! I'd eat some of those foods. Anything that comes in a bucket is good! I like buckets.
