It does kind of suck.

But amputating my leg saved my life, and phantom limb pain is a small price to pay for staying alive long enough to be interviewed by WheezyWaiter.

Wow, it's edited so well, it sounds like Hank Green and I are having a conversation or something. Maybe we have a phantom limb connecting our brains.

I just LOVE this video by the way. Thanks, Craig, for giving me the chance to work with you and appear with John Green in it. Fantastic editing.

Loved your speech in Juneau, AK you did :). I am a Amputee myself lost it to a tumor at 2 months, i still have the Phantom Pain every once in a while. It is great hearing from someone else who is an amputee.

Your brain's designed for 4 limbs. When you remove a leg, your brain goes "no no its not gone its still there. see? Its right there *creates phantom leg*"

I lost the tips of two fingers a few years ago. The skin from the side of my fingers was folded over to cover the bare tips. For a long time, touching the tip of the stub felt like I was touching the side of my finger. As far as phantom pain, my doctor told me to lightly bite the finger tips on the other hand. Worked like a charm.

Crazy. So crazy! I feel so terrible for Josh that he has to go through that, but it also really gives me an appreciation for all my limbs. Definitely has changed my perspective.

0:50: “that’s because science hasn’t been invented yet”
Steven’s dad: who the hail invented physics. I want to walk uphill both ways. Steven, you know why I want you to be engineer, because I want you to un-invent physics
Lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣

Fun fact :
In an international study - phantom limb pain in patients hands (surgically removed) has been reduced somewhat. The way it has been done is : The patient looking into a device that shows the healthy hand but mirrored, so it resembles the missing hand. A physiotherapist or an occupational therapist manipulates the painful area of the phantom limb and thereby has a chance to "cheat" the brain into believing it was the missing hand that was manipulated.

After "Origins", this is the only other "Good Stuff" that I liked. Very interesting subject and great interviews.

For people who aren't doctors or scientists and want to learn more about phantom limbs and similar cases, I recommend the neurologist Oliver Sacks' books (he talks about phantom limbs in his book "hallucinations") and I think he even has videos on youtube on the subject. I find his work really fascinating, and he is really great at explaining the science and neurology of these cases so that those of us who aren't doctors can understand them.

Interesting video! I also like the editing. I really hope The Good Stuff will continue beyond December.
