This helped so much! My brother in law has been coming to get my horse manure for the past few years for his garlic and he gave me a head to grow this year. They are looking awesome (apparently my horses produce great compost 😂) and I wouldn’t have remembered I should cut the scapes if I hadn’t looked you up. Thanks for an easy step by step tutorial on this. I’ll be looking up your other videos. PLUS, you’re from my favorite place in the world! I’m from Idaho, but my son & his wife live in the lower mainland near Vancouver! ❤️

Very concise and simple tutorial!!! I love it. I grew garlic this year and skipped a few of these steps. Next year I will incorporate all of your steps. Thank you.

Garlic Noob here--planted in October here in farther N. Commifornia, low inland, 9a. They were 6" tall a couple weeks later going to 10" or so before real winter temps, we only get light infrequent frost so they stayed green if dormant until recent months, by now, late April, full height.

Great video! The only thing I would add would be that garlic heads should never be left to dry in the sun. In fact, harvest is best done on a cloudy day or when there is shade available. But the heads and stalks should be laid out or hung up in the shade with good ventiation.

Very nice video. Garlic is awesome to grow. Biggest cloves from the biggest bulbs grows the biggest bulbs for sure. I find the more you water the bigger too. Pepperman Out!!😊

Thanks Jordan. First time planting garlic here in Iowa Zone 5. I had forgotten about the Spring time fertilization, so will pull back the leaf mulch and lay on some fertilizer. I planted in late November, because word had it that here in Iowa, an October planting will give unwanted green growth in November. The ground usually freezes solid, so over the 4" planting I laid on 6" leaf mulch. This was a bit too much for some of the garlic, but most of it eventually popped through in mid February and is now growing like a champion. I'm for leaving the mulch in place because it reduces weed competition and holds moisture, making it unnecessary to water the garlic. So far so good. The plants look great, but we'll see what the harvest is like. BTW, I got my garlic from BJ Gourmet Garlic Farm in Ohio. They're somewhat clerically challenged (i.e., answering the telephone, tracking orders) but the garlic came in time for our November planting, and it looks like we're at about 98% germination rate. Probably would have been 100% but for the heavy mulch (my fault). Give them a look if you're into specialty garlic. In our case, it was Korean garlic. They sent us nice looking cloves.

Hi Jordan,
I've been growing my own garlic for many years in our home garden in Gibsons but still picked up some good tips from your videos! One thing that you might mention is the importance of rotating your garlic crop, if possible, to avoid diseases like garlic rust.
Thanks for all your good work!

My garlic sprouts almost straight away after planting say 2 -3 weeks. I love growing garlic and I live in South Australia so our growing season is long and winter here are relatively warm min 4°c if it ever gets late low. So knowing I get growth from my garlic as soon as I plant it I came up with an idea to start my garlic in water beds for 2 weeks before planting and this has been a great starter for the bulb I have been growing my garlic with this method for many years and have never had so much fun and the kids love to see the garlic from before we plant them
