Use a bigger pot than that please. Needs room to bulb.

Not sure about the garlic skins thing, but know for a fact that you should powder the skins so they are actually bioavailable to the plant’s roots

Edit: more garlic facts for those interested: you need the room because the garlic clove is going to grow more cloves, which growers call this process to “bulb up”. You need the garlic to be buried, you cannot suspend it in or above water. It takes a long time to grow and most plant their cloves in the winter before their first frost (you can check when that is in your area by looking up your hardiness zone for garlic) and won’t get their garlic harvest until about summertime. You can eat the garlic greens (called garlic scapes). When your garlic flowers (a very pretty purple flower), you’re going to want to cut it off so that all the energy it was putting to making a flower will go to the bulb itself. Watch out for mold and rot (don’t over water) and add mulch around the stems of the garlic to keep moisture levels up! Hope this helps!
