AMD vs. INTEL in 2023: which CPUs are better?

To be... Intel or AMD? What CPU should you chose these days and why?

What I noticed between the 2 is, AMD runs excellent for gaming, video and audio editing, ect. Intel runs better off internet streaming, office software, and other applications away from gaming. AMD more dedicated for games and focuses on all the applications for gaming leaving out the home pc applications . Intel does the same thing but vice versa away from gaming applications so PC runs faster for home pc applications .

Thanks for the great overview. Here's one thing that makes me lean toward Intel: the excellent media encoders/decoders built into their integreted GPU's, which includes Quicksynch. My understanding is that these give a distinct advantage in video editing when your footage is shot in the codecs typically used on modern mirrorless cameras, such as h.264 and h.265. The AMD CPU's do not seem to be nearly as good in terms of their media encoders and decoders. Do you have an opinion on this? Thanks.

i got 7700 non x this time and in the future i go for 8000 flagship both of cpu and videocard.

Is there an issue of CHECKSUMS with AMD versus Intel?
Also, do both AMD and Intel perform similarly regarding 3D, multimedia applications?

I haven't built a budget build in over a decade. I was going to build one but I'm afraid. I'm not afraid of current technologies or anything of that nature but I am afraid of the terrible reports on the 490, 550, x700 something boards and the USB, audio, SATA issues with AMD and Intel CPU's. There seems to be approximately a 30% of boards having problems (even with BIOS updates and sometimes making worse) and then issues with the CPU's. I don't remember having this much trouble finding reliable parts for my last two builds but this time around I feel like I would just be shoving my money in the garbage disposal then punching myself in the face repeatedly.

When I build a new computer I look for the point where the price drops significantly. At this time the Intel 12700k is around $300 while the next step up runs or above $500. Budget has to play a part in the decision process

You said 7950X has lower power consumption than 13900K, that is simply wrong. All specs say 13900K has max TDP at 125W and 7950X at 170W.

13th gen can also work with pcie 5.0 drives. My motherboard has it

I don't know about 'recent years';
Back in the 1990's when the first pentiums were released the AMD processors were notably faster at times than the intel counterparts. Intel would release a pentium and AMD would follow a few months later with a faster CPU. I was working in a computer shop and I'd swap CPU every few months. Typically when going from an intel to an AMD I'd get a more performant CPU for 80% of the price (imagine upgrading your computer ànd getting money back - those were the days. intel was in dire straits in those days, they got on top again and it's been back and forth for 30+ years.

In the future they integrate RAM and GPU together..but they change every 3 months

I built a new pc using the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X which is the 12 core CPU and I paired it on an ASUS TUF Motherboard with the x570 chipset, I have 2 NVMe drives from Samsung the 980 PRO and one is 1TB, the other is 2TB and both support PCIe 4.0 x 4, and the graphics card is also from ASUS, the RX 6750XT OC and this system is more than enough to play the latest games without the CPU being the bottleneck in any game ever at a resolution of 3440x1440 which is an ultra wide display, lately I'm playing Star Citizen and it runs very smooth, even with that game my CPU isn't used very much in-game.
Most of the work is done by the GPU and even that doesn't need to be pegged to 100% usage all the time, it runs at about 65 degree Celsius when it's being used at 100%.
I'm very happy with my new system, I have no regrets getting the 3900X CPU and it does everything I need it to do and more, I still have my old pc which is now just over a decade old and that one does pretty much everything except for the latest new games that's not possible anymore but Shadow of the Tomb Raider can still be played if I turn down the graphics a bit.
If it wasn't for the latest new games that I really wanted to play I wouldn't have bought this new computer, I would have used the old one until it didn't want to startup anymore for some hardware related reason.

INTELs will always be greater than RYZENs, price will also be ridiculously higher than RYZENs, I've been using INTEL everything from Desktop to Laptop to Tablets, I had enough experienced with INTELs, now it's time switch to RYZEN... INTEL CPUs may emptoed your pocket while with RYZEN your pocket won't be empty & you still have some money in pocket to buy other things you need to buy...
