Faber-Castell offers Albrecht Durer Artists’ watercolor pencils and Goldfaber Aqua watercolor pencils. Both watercolor lines are created to capture your creative visions but have a few differences in their design and delivery.

The art of creating with watercolor pencils is a unique experience that allows the artist a versatile approach to his or her work of art. Watercolor pencils function as your go-to medium when seeking to step out-of-the-box with different elements of art. Watercolor opens a door of creative possibilities. You can use it simply for drawing- quick sketching, hatching, or even shading on the surface. Blend it with water, and now you have a whole new realm of possibilities with your art.

The difference between Albrecht Durer and Goldfaber Aqua starts at the appearance and lead size. Albrecht Durer holds a thick 3.8 mm lead; creating fine precise lines with break resistance. Goldfaber Aqua holds a break-resistant 3.3 mm lead. The lead color of your Albrecht Durer can be identified by the entire coating of the pencil while Goldfaber Aqua is consistently grey with the lead shade painted on the end of the pencil. Goldfaber Aqua is also stamped with the item number and color number on the barrel where Albrecht Durer is labeled with color name in German and English, color number, and lightfast rating.

Albrecht Durer was created for the professional artist, with the highest quality pigments for unsurpassed lightfastness, many lasting for more than 100 years. Goldfaber Aqua is perfect for the student, aspiring artist, and hobby artist; its high-quality pigments are lightfast. Albrecht Durer is available in 120 different colors; Goldfaber Aqua 48.

Though both lines have different attributes: they still carry the Faber-Castell quality. Made in Germany, both watercolor pencils are SV bonded, hexagonal, and coated with water-based varnish. Both pencils are also fully water-soluble, easily blended when wet, permanent when dry, highly pigmented, and provide a soft and vibrant color laydown. Consistency is key as both pencil line’s colors are consistent wet or dry. For easy use of various media, our pencils are part of a unique color matching system encompassing all Faber-Castell Art & Graphic products.

Regardless if you create your art on a hobby or professional level, watercolor pencils are an excellent tool to express your artwork in a unique way and bring your colors to life!

Another basic difference I see is that Albrecht Dürer pencils disolve completely instead of Goldfaber Aqua that leave a little of pencil marks.
I've got the 24 set of Albrecht Dürer and once in a while I buy some of them individually.😍

I have the whole set of the Goldfabers and some of the Albrecht Durers. I use the mostly for adult coloring. I like the Goldfabers for coloring small areas better but I do like the Albrecht Durers for big Areas. I think they are smoother. They are both wonderful pencils and I do find that I can use them together.

Watercolors are not permanent when dry. You can activate them with water again after they are dry.

QUESTION: so the name of the color isn't on the Goldfaber Aqua, only the number?
