I really love the Albrecht Durer. They're lovely.

I love the few pencils I have from Caran dAche, but my go-to watercolor pencils are my FC…(including my polychromos). I found the entire set, almost brand new at a yard sale years ago. It’s easier to buy open stock at my local art shop. And yes, the pinks and blues are great…I love the Caran dAche pencils when I want more earthy, neutral colors. Great video, as always 😉

I have a few in both brands and found the Faber Castell brand to be so much more affordable than Caran D’Ache. Great video.

I have both and I find the Faber Castel just as intense and they seem to activate better with water as well. I don't like the pencil marks underneath showing in my work. 120 colors to choose from is also a plus for me. Depends on how you work I guess.

I like the Caran D’ache best but you’re right about the color range. You found some nice pinks. The light green looks like Sennelier emerald green watercolor. I love the light magenta and light cobalt turquoise. Thanks for swatching these out for us. Ive been looking for that alizarin crimson pink. Love the brush Irit! Also glad you are restocking your stamps! Thank you!

I have both AD and MA, and If I had to pick a fave, it would be Albrecht Durer, because I prefer the feel of them when I am drawing with them, and I love the colour range. I do also like MA, particularly for some colours which are not present in the AD range, like light olive, and I find both work well together.

I am going to throw in a wild card… While the color range of the Stabillo All pencils is limited, I actually think that they are superb. The black Stabillo All is in my top 5 for all time, all categories of art supplies ever! I also bought their white (which shows up really nicely on top of clear gesso in my mixed media work) and red, yellow, and orange. I don’t love that you can’t just buy all the colors in a set, but I have definitely gone through entire 12 packs of the Stabillo all black pencils! Love them so much!

I’ve only used the Derwin inktense pencils, and wasn’t looking to get any other watercolor pencils, but was just gifted a 36 set of these faber castell. I think the colors (at least in this set)are pretty pigmented and have a nice variety of blues.

Hello, first time commenting here. I do enjoy your down to earth nature and practical advice regarding buying new supplies, which matches the way I buy art supplies. A few weeks ago I was debating between buying the FC AD watercolor pencils and the CD MA. In the end I knew if I purchased the FC AD I would still be pining after the CD MA, so I ended up buying the MA landscape set and 12-count assorted set, plus violet and anthraquinoid pink. I’m very happy with the colors I bought and the color payoff from the MA pencils. I am a hobbyist card maker and I stamp images and then color with either alcohol markers, coloring pencils, and watercolor pencils. Watercolor pencils are a great way to have a lot of watercolors at my fingertips, and to have a little bit of control, since I’m not used to watercoloring with paints from a pan or tube. The last time I painted with watercolor paints from pans was more than thirty years ago!

I think you'd like the Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 pencils too!
They are soft like wax crayons but you can make watercolour effects with them when you add water to them ^^

I have the landscape set of the museum aquarelle and the full set of Albrecht Durer. Personally I like the A/D better but I can't tell you why. LOL I have the museum aquarelle in a travel set because I rarely reach for them. Again, I don't know why. Maybe it's because I love Faber Castell polychromos and the two sets are coordinated together? I really liked your video.

Love these pencils.. thanks for the review

I find the w/c pencils are a drag to get pay off on cold pressed paper, unless used w/w. And you mention wanting your water soluble pencils to ‘pack a punch’ - have you compared inktense pencils to the museum aquarelle?

There are some colors that Faber Castell does REALLY well (heh, that rhymes!) and I admit I have some open stock of the Albrecht Durer in my watercolor pencil range. Always fun to watch a swatching video from you.

I had to check my stash and yes, Cobalt Green 156 (Durer) is a true teal in their range, imo. I don`t have Cob. Turq. Lt, though... yet))
I love A.Durer))

I came to my current CD Albrecht Durer pencils after first purchasing a Lyra set. The Lyra watercolor pencils did not activate well and drove me crazy with the pencil marks showing up. Been happy with the FC AD pencils, but agree that color is more important than brand. But you must have access to a good day supply store to be able to pick and choose! Hopefully the store in my town carries the Caran dAche so that I can try them out. Thanks for the video!

I love the Caran Dache brand but my FBAB perform much better than the CD water colir pencils. I dont like to see the lines after activating.

I think Caran d'Ache won't add too many pinks to their Museum Aquarelle range because they want to stay consistent with the lightfastness.
Their student range (Supracolor) has more pinks indeed.
I've never tried Museum Aquarelle, but I have some Durers and Supracolors and I love both.
I also love really pale flesh tones because they are so hard to come by except for light cool roses, ochres, siennas and salmon/peach tones.
So it's nice to have something inbetween.
Unlike with actual watercolours it's not that easy to get light skin tones with pencils, water-resistant and water-soluble alike. So I appreciate all the manufacturers' efforts for that given how many people I draw :)

I don’t much like the Supracolor. I prefer the Albrecht Dürer. I also love Museum Aquarell but they are so expensive it’s absurd. At least in my country. And I love Polychromos. I love Prismacolor as well. It depends of my mood of the day I think 😂 the one I love more . I love Holbeins as well, but are absurdly expensive. But Prismacolor and Polychromos are always my go to. Oh, Lightfast is a great line of pencils as well. Very similar to the Luminance. Love both equally. I think they complete each other.
But I don’t use them, as you do.
