Faber Castell's Albrecht Durer Watercolour Pencils! 120 in a Fancy Wooden Case. Swatching & Artwork

Today I will review Faber-Castell's largest set of Albrecht Durer pencils, in the large wooden cantilever box. (It's called a Wenge Wood Case) There are 120 pencils, and they are water soluble, so they will behave somewhat like watercolors. How good are they? Watch to find out!

I did a massive swatch of all the colours, and an art work of course to fully see how they work.

Colours used in the artwork:
Chrome Oxide Green, Permanent Green, Spring Green, Grass Green, Cobalt Green, Pine Green, Light Cobalt Turquoise, Phthalo Blue, Medium and Light, Skyblue, Scarlet Red, Light Cadmium Red, Dark Chrome Yellow, Orange Glaze, Cadmium Yellow, Light Yellow Glaze, Delft Blue, Cold Grey I,II,III, Burnt Siena, India red, Walnut Brown, Black.

Watching swatches is always so delightful. The blues area of the swatch made me think of Chagall's windows in Chicago's Art Institute. So lovely.

Becky, you are the Queen of color pencil sets. Your parrot is so beautiful..I love the colors you use for it. I have around 20ish Albrech Durer watercolor pencils "magnus" ones. That's too bad they are fading them! Anyhow beautiful box set!

I always love Faber Castel products. I have the full range of the Polychromos in the tin, had it for about 4 years now and am only just now needing a few replacement pencils. I also have a few of the Albrecht Durer range to compliment my Derwent watercolor pencils and they work really well together. Such patience you have to swatch them all! I wait for sales to get my art supplies, then they don't feel quite so precious to me as if I'd bought them regular price. That helps take some of the edge of the 'preciousness' off for me when it comes to being too afraid to use them. Most of my watercolor collection I've built up on whenever they're on sale too xD Looking forward to seeing your journey in watercolor pencils!

There are many videos on YouTube that give beginners tips for watercolour pencils. But if you really want to apply them and make progress, it‘s difficult to find videos.
You paint so beautifully with these pens. Could you teach us more so that we can make progress with this medium?

I have the polychromos version of this! It was a gift to myself which I purchased back in November….. and guess what….. I can’t bring myself to use it to break it’s perfection as you put it! 🫣 but you’ve inspired me to go for it now 😂 I’d love to see a head to head between these and the Caran D’Ache 🙏
