Santa Barbara waters also aren't turquoise in color and I've seen grey sun fish over 500lbs on top of the water sunning itself in one of the disabled fishing trip program I started in Ventura county called specialized anglers foundation and we took 70-80 disabled people out shallow reef fishing at the channel islands and we saw one of those outta Santa Barbara's Sea Landing sport's fishing on the old condor. Ron was our captain. We were blessed every year with flat waters and awesome fishing. Ron would take us to the caves out at the islands that was huge in size. We had dolphins escort us out and Wales plus that huge sunfish. Its possible that maybe that fish might have been that exact one even??
