I received a request a few days ago about working with audio loops in Reaper. The request was specifically asking if this could be done similarly to Sony Acid... SO I did some research. I wasn't familiar with Sony Acid... but I watch a couple tutorial videos dealing with Audio loops and now I present you a video dealing with audio loops in Reaper.

What you will need: Reaper, Audio Loops, a slightly creative mind. :-)

What you will learn: Media Browser navigation, Drag and Drop loops into a session, Region creation for musical arrangements

I'm not sure if i said it in the video or not but I was borrowing my friends Sony Acid loops for the video. There are plenty of free sample packs online.. Maybe I'll do a quick series on those sites and a quick beat that you could create with them.

I've been bummed since I switched to a MAC computer a few years back that I could not use Acid.... but now reaper seems to be able to get me close. Thanks for posting...VERY HELPFUL! :)

I have the same question - where does your inventory of loops come from?

Heya, Nice Tute, I am a former ACID user too. Just wanted a respond by saying that at one point in the video you stretch out an incorrectly timed sample and you stretched it out correctly and then deleted it (4:31). but you never mentioned that you used ALT+click to do this....this could quite possibly be what the user was asking about. Also they might have been talking about how to pitch shift once you have the samples. (in acid this is CTRL+ and CTRL - in Acid)

Where do you buy your loops? Those sounded really good.

Wow I didn't even know that Reaper could do all that and I've used it for years!  I'm new to looping though.. Great lesson!

One very important thing missing that ACID has is the ability to work in KEYS. With Reaper it looks like you would have to sort out the pitching yourself if you want the mix to actually work.

I have used ACID Pro since the 1st version - but it hasn't had an update in an awfully long time and is still 32-bit and has many unfixed bugs which annoy me enough to want to change. Currently looking at Mixcraft which I already like a lot.

Anyone got anything to say on Reaper vs Mixcraft? Pros and Cons?

Thanks for all the vidz, were all the loops in the same key ? did you mention changing the pitch, like in Acid, Audition etc. it changes pitch tempo automatically, but I thought in Reaper you have to Shift+9 Shift+0 to go up down semitone, not sure if they had it in 2011 ?

I borrowed these loops from a friend to make this video. I believe most of them were from Sony Acid Studio.

hello. thanks for the tutorial. i am having trouble copying my region so it duplicates (as you have demonstrated at 10:35mins)

I have a mac laptop. What keys do I use while I try and drag the region over to copy it?

Does Reaper come with its own loops like on logic?

I very got a question : it seems that all loops you pulled were playing in the same key. Does it mean you picked up loop (for example guitar) which was already in a particular key, or somehow the loop adjusted to the key of the song? And if so, how to do it? Thank you!

so are there not any pre-made loops on Reaper?

I'm having trouble setting this up. Do I need to establish shortcuts prior to trying to drag and drop? When I go to Media explorer and try to open looploft files they don't show in the media window. I thought these media files were supposed to work with REAPER by simple drag and drop. When I open the regular windows media explorer the files show up but won't drag and drop or move to shortcuts, , , nuthin.

Very long-winded way to working with loops. In Acid you can just make the loop as long (bar wise) or as short as your heart desires by simply dragging the loop along the timeline. What a cleverly simple concept hence why Acid still rules after all these years. In fact I still use Acid Pro 7 as my number DAW for composing/arranging and use Audition as the main editor. Simple, efficient and very quick working workflow.
