Last time I checked, $700 consoles don't sell so well. I do believe that the PS5 Pro will sell more than the CD-I or 3DO but it will be nowhere near any current console.

Wait, I thought people were just meming. Do people actually think PS5 Pro’s $700 price point was a direct result of Concord’s flop? 😂

What's more accurate is that thanks to various social and economic things such as multiple Wars across different countries and trade issues, electronic components are way more expensive now than they were even 5 years ago during the pandemic, and I think this is not only Sony's way of trying to recoup costs, but also to test to see what is an appropriate acceptable price for when they eventually launched the PlayStation 6.

Because they say how much people spent on the ps5 from scalpers. It will drop to 500 by next holiday.

I think it's simply because the PS5 Pro is a luxury product. There's absolutely no reason to get it over a PS5 except for it plays PS5 games slightly better. And across multiple industries, luxury products cost more than they are worth. Because the type of people who buy luxury products have the money to buy luxury products. It doesn't make sense to try to sell it at razor thin margins to entice the type of people who say they'd rather buy a PC or wait until it's on sale, because those types of people (who are more money conscious) would probably go for a PS5 or PS5 slim instead anyway. At that point Sony would be competing with themselves.

So where the PS5 might be sold at a slight loss to try to get as many people into the ecosystem as possible, it makes sense to sell the PS5 Pro at a profit for a fans of Sony who are willing to pay more for a superior product (Even if only slightly superior).

Same thing for my shop. I sell economy products and luxury product. There's no way I'm stocking luxury product and selling it at similar or smaller margins than my economy product. It adds unnecessary risk (because I have to pay for the product up front before it's sold) and provides no reward (because I'd end up making more money selling the cheaper product). Microeconomics 101. You don't spend more money to make less, unless you want to go out of business fast.

Instead of them trying to squeeze every single penny from the consumer, maybe they should get rid of these high paid executives that don't know what they're doing.

People sometimes think way too temporarily short sighted when discussing these things. Like when something gets announced, most calculations and decisions have been made like a year before already (at least). That's also why little changes usually when the reception is kinda luke warm. Because all current decisions are already being made ontop of the previous decisions. Everything is pretty much set in stone at this point.

That’s a massive reach whoever donated that. He is right just because concord failed doesn’t mean that’s the reason for the price being so high. I bet that person was thinking oh concord failed so that’s the soul reason why the price of the pro is so high… no use your brain buddy those kind of things are planed in advance

After a limited ps5 release, i expected prices to go up.

Maybe PS5 pro isn’t because or concord, but the lack of games on sale on ps store is definitely because of concord

Thats not how margins work. Margins for consoles aren't calculated on total fiscal profitability. Especially for profits in the same year. Its generally done on a per unit basis since you can't project how many units you will sell definitively.

People also forget the legal stuff they were pushing when it came to the ABK acquisition from Xbox. Sure they maybe didn’t formally sue Xbox but I’m sure they had some legal fees or fees related to them trying to convince regulators from allowing it to go through. The failure of their legal fight coupled with bad return on live service games could be why they increased the price and ultimately fired Jim Ryan.

Also probably why Sony started pushing PS games on steam requiring linking a PSN account. Anything to pump the numbers and make them look better to shareholders/investors.

Dude PS Pro is $1199 in my country. Definitely ain’t worth the upgrade cause Sony likes remastering ps4 games.

What led to the $700 price tag?? Resale of PS5 during the pandemic. People who were able to purchase the PS5 at MSRP were a lot of people;however, their were millions of people also paid $100+ over MSRP.
Ebay, Amazon, Facebook, Walmart, etc. were all selling the PS5 over MSRP and most were paying $700+ easily.
Sony figured that the market could handle the $700 price tag, and the market was right. It can. Retailers and 3rd party sellers have the proof to back it up.
For every person who says that they did not pay over MSRP for the PS5, you have 5-10 people who did.
The question is: What is going to be price of the PS6? No time in history has the slim/pro versions of the Playstations were more expensive than the next gen consoles.
