Thanks to @nocontextfm1 on Twitter, Zealand can now respond to Football Manager's lively online presence, wielding its wildest takes. How corrupt are 'game-breaking tactics' and are wonderkid lists really cheating? The FM Senpai has the answers. Or the opinions, depending on if you agree, I suppose.

I picked a group of responses that let us dive into FM20's intricacies while having fun with a few unsuspecting tweeters. But as always, learning to play FM is the well-hidden reason for this video. A tutorial through making fun of everyone. Sounds good.

Okay I'll defend myself as a 2D player. Let's argue.

Main reason is that I just can't stand the appearance of the 3D players. They look like wacky inflatable arm waving tubemen and run like they're on rails, which just breaks the immersion for me. The 2D is much more clear and I just sort of imagine what it would look like if it was real, rather than having the more 'real-looking' 3D shit all over my imagination. As for the data analyst camera, it's so high up you may as well use 2D because you're not really getting any of the benefit of 3D.

I must seem so triggered but I need to back 2D.

Nothing wrong in downloading tactics to see how they work and then then using the knowledge gained to devise your own tactics. Managers in the real world do not invent tactics out of thin air. They develop tactics by learning from others and adding their own twists from knowledge and experience.

Every manager has a philosophy that has influenced them - downloaded tactics resemble that "base" philosophy which is tweaked over time due to players and what works.

I've found an interesting paradox about Football Manager, which applies to me (not sure if it applies to everyone though). The more I play the game, the worst I become at it. Really? Well, kind of...

So what I mean is this- the more often I play the game, the less I start to think about tactics and particular games. The more time I spend on the game, the more automated the process of playing the game becomes in my brain. If I play more games during an FM session, I occasionally forget to do shouts, tactical adjustments, etc. This usually results in some anger and disappointment in me, I feel like I am getting robbed from results by the game. Then I start playing more, maybe until I find myself out of a bad streak. This may continue to the point in which I've had enough of the game and don't play it for a couple of months.

A few months later I come back to the game, refreshed, and start a new save. I think about every game, every staff member, every decision I take, and genuinely pay attention to more things that are happening in my save. I take it slowly, no more than 3-4 games at a day (usually only 1 or 2). I start doing good because I take my time when playing the game. After a while, I start getting more confident and naturally expect to be good at the game. Because I think I am good at the game, I become complacent and start expecting too much from my players. I repeat the mistakes I mentioned earlier ( not making tactical adjustments, not using the touchline shouts) and the process repeats itself.

How touchy some people get over FM ks hilarious. Like the way they play makes them a better person and the SAF of the virtual football world. Just let people play the game how they want, they paid the money for it 🤷‍♂️😅

I love the 3D match engine. The last FM I owned was fm15 on the ipad so this is like a revelation for me - watching a beautiful goal scored by players I've bought (or watching them slam the ball into the side netting).

8:51 There is a game mechanic for this, sort of. I had one of my regens at Heerenveen had a 'significant life event' which boosted his determination by 6-8 points and turned him from a very promising player into a wonderkid.

As far as ‘do a YouTube series’ goes. It might be worth speaking to Reece (sp?) about doing an edited highlights version of your twitch streams. More people get to see you in action, and maybe drives more people to the stream once they’ve had a taste 👀 also, full streams are not for everyone but this way you don’t have to change your approach/routine *too much*
