Ah yes. My pup hated our cat so much for whatever reason that even years after she had died you just have to say the word “Gracie” and you’d hear a growl under his breath.

One of my cats decided to just ignore my dogs. He's quite big for a normal cat, and since he realised they wanted to play and not attack, it seemd like not doing anything was the best option. Of course if they start to annoy him too much he just slaps them and continues with whatever he was doing.

Speaking from my step dad's hunting experience. He once lost a hunting beagle to a wild cat that took the dog by surprise. The cat waiting for the dog to be near water then pounced on it from above and drowned the dog. The dog was there for birds, not the cat... but to the cat it was in it's territory and had to go.

Oh my lord my cat was so easy to train that she was able to sit, rollover, high five, could literally use the toilet and play dead like it was nothing. I thought she was the smartest little thing because my family dog couldn't even sit for Christ sakes. Very shy around people but she had a heart of gold. I miss her so much 😞

I think dogs just come on too strong with friendly high energy. Cats like to be approached very calmly with no pressure

When I was a kid we had two cats and a dog - one female we had for a while on her own, then a male dog, and years later a younger male cat. The dog and the male cat bonded really well, but the female cat hated them both. The dog would try to be friendly, but always got a slap for it. She and the male cat just avoided each other after she realised he would fight back. She was really affectionate with humans though. I think she just saw the other two as intruding on her territory.

There's this other YouTube channel called wildciencias which basically makes animal matchups and interesting facts. And the British narrator on that channel used evidence to show how the different body structures of cats and dogs can support a genetic rivalry between the two carnivores. Some matchups were Wolf vs cougar, wolf vs snow leopard. And while the wolf proved how canines aside from the Jaguar typically have stronger jaws and superior endurance, it lost both matchups to those felines simply because cats are more built for fighting than dogs.

My old cat was really weird. He rarely had much problems with dogs, even newly introduced ones (still acted aggressively every now and then when they bugged him though), but he could not stand other cats at all.

My dog shares her food with my neighbors’ cats, she’s so kind. She doesn’t get along with dogs but adores cats. She’s a guard dog as well, German Shepherd mix breed.

to be fair, dogs are inherently pack animals that we domesticated cause they were useful to us.
cats domesticated themselves cause they could get extra food AND occasional cuddles if they let us get close.
most cats that are kept as pets aren't trained at all and get a ton of freedom to roam around, making it so they keep their individualism and occasionally end up in situations where they need to defend themselves.
on the other hand, dogs that are kept as pets are usually somewhat trained (or highly trained) and usually stick to their handler instead of being allowed to roam the neighborhood.

Makes quite a lot of sense that cats would regain a bit more of their 'feral' traits, when they were never really bred to be trained etc (and usually just randomly breed with neighborhood cats) whereas dogs are usually consciously bred to look for certain traits and diminish others. dogs used to be work-animals/companions, whereas there was never a 'need' to train cats. so trainability wasn't an important trait to breed for.

My mother-in-law has a cat named Dixon who will wag his tail whenever he's happy or being friendly! It's the strangest thing! His body language and how he interacts with people show he's obviously happy and in a good mood, but he'll wag lol... he's never been around dogs, as far as I'm aware, so I'm not sure how he picked up that trait. He's a goofy but sweet boy

It wasn't just due to cat that some of these species of dogs when extinct. Have you ever heard the saying "it's a dog eat dog world"? Not only were they competing with cats for food they were also competing with their own kind. Over food, territory, dominance, etc. Cats unlike dogs were able to respect rival cat prides territorys and there was less conflict among cats than dogs at that time. So it was kinda because of "dog eat dog" that lead to their demise.

I had the opposite experience, my dogs and cat loved each other; however, the cat arrived when he was a kitten barely two months old and my dogs (German Sheppard 2 years old and Maltese 3 years old) played with him. Also, my cat was not afraid of other dogs and trained him to poop in the toilet... you have to spend a lot of time with them to get this results/

My cat Jaws doesn't actually mind dogs, infact sometimes she'll rub against a dog's legs if we have one over. Winnie will hide whenever anyone new comes over, Clover will hiss and get poofy, and Rowdy will scream until I cuddle him.

My cats grew up with the presence of my dog, so they naturally assume that dogs are friendly, until a bunch of stray dogs came and almost killed them, they still love my dog, but have a large grudge against other dogs
