The Impact of Social Media on Body Image & Mental Health

In this video, we'll take some time to unpack some of the complicated issues around social media use and the connections to body image and mental health. We'll discuss some of the unrealistic expectations social media serves and examine some of the most problematic behaviours observed. Then, we'll look at how social media affects how kids, youth, and adults view themselves. Finally, we'll focus on what you can do to help guide someone struggling with social media use. We'll end with some tips and strategies you may adopt to turn social media activities into more positively focused experiences.

Social media has opened a can of worms on this issue. Everybody is now so accessible & posting stuff every single minute plus there’s some that really don’t think before posting things that could result in a negative impact in many people. There is such a fixation on being “perfect”, having the body of “Barbie” etc etc etc yet there is no such thing as perfect. But if say someone you like is on social media and they’re saying these things aren’t important what matters is your heart & soul yet every single picture/video they post they’re surrounded by “pretty people” it can have such a deadly impact on the person. It shows that person has lied continuously & the aesthetics of a person is the only thing they want to show on their profiles. We do need to step back from the socials every now & then. And the socials need to also step up a hell of a lot more & ban the trolls/bullies/“idiots” from the platforms.
