The increase in teen girls feeling “sad or hopeless” from 2011 to 2021 correlates with the rise in social media during the same period, according to the CDC.

The good all days when the most you could do was play with friends, read books, do chores and still have spare time left and you were happy. Newer generations will never know what mental freedom is like.

Understand this!....it's not "social media", it's "anti social media"....there is NO socializing going on whatsoever!

I’m doing my PhD in social psych and I research the experience of the “gap” between the mind and world.

People who use social media more often have a stronger sense of this gap.

What’s troubling, is that the gap is also related to dehumanization, conspiratorial beliefs, sympathy for extremism, lack of meaning in life, avoidance, anxiety and depression.

So yeah in plain terms I think social media is cutting off kids from the real world and messing with their humanity.

Yessss I had a whole long conversation about this when I was in my layover at the airport with a woman she was so kind and she told me about sites that can help kids… I feel like kids need to get off there phoned

social media made me live in complete isolation. Which is a good thing actually 🤗🤗🤗.

I would highly recommend living a lonely life as much as you could.

We spend the the highest per capita on education per student but scoring less on reading, math, and science. What does it have to due mental health? Less job opportunities that required higher skill levels in the competitive job market including service sector that requires greater emphany.

Children are not supposed to see hundreds of photos and videos in a never ending timeline or feed. This causes information overload and a false sense of time. As someone who grew up in the 90s, there were limitations to news information and entertainment. It was rare to see children that contemplated suicide, sex change and severe ADHD.

as a former hardcore user, it's harmful effects last now for at least 5 years after quitting, i have no urge to be social, or find new friends or any kind of love, it's permanent, it will never go away, too late to make a change

I think that social media has both good and bad effects on teens’ mental health. I absolutely agree that it depends on the content that the teen is watching. They can watch educating content and benefit from it, or watch stupid content and deteriorate mentally, isolating from reality. It is also common teenagers watching someone’s perfect life (which in most cases is not that perfect), compare to theirs and get pressured psychologically. They should understand that what is shown on social media is not the whole picture and not compare to others.

Would anyone expect anything else when nobody having any personal ties socially becomes normal
I feel sorry for kids these days and for probably the last 30+ years for multiple reasons, and the new normal isn't normal at all

Why is this even a question? There are ongoing lawsuits against Facebook and Instagram because they know their platforms are addicting.

Considering that my sister stays chronically online and is always on Twitter 24/7 arguing with kpop Stan accounts which is causing her to lash out and cuss out everyone in my house, I would say that social media does have a huge impact on your mental health.

I found myself more hateful, judgmental, and lonely than ever.

When my grandparents were young, comic books and juvenile delinquency were blamed for destroying America's youth. When I was growing up, the blame shifted to television. Now social media is the villain. Seems like everything new that comes along gets the blame.

Thats a question that merits investigation. But left wing media certainly does cause pain and mental struggle for many.

My close friend Matt Gaetz says he supports underage girls chatting online. Matt says: "It's a great way to meet more mature people who are willing to share nice & profitable experiences irl." MAGA!
