"Also, she has relatable flaws like being clumsy, too humble, or having brown hair. She has a rivalry with a girl who you know is a stuck up jerk because she has blonde hair, and has worn make up at least once."

Forgot the love triangle with the other guy, who is equally masculine but much more sensitive, but pretty dang close.

"It was clear from the get-go that chainsaw and seawater were totally into each other"
Well that's a sentence that exists now.

I like the idea that a secret rebellion against a shadow government or a squad of super powered teenagers would have an HR representative

We hear a lot of “men writing women” skits, so it’s refreshing and funny to hear “women writing women”

“Nobody will say anything directly about her physical appearance but it will be obvious from how everybody reacts to her and how every male character responds to her that she’s the most beautiful girl in the dystopia.”

The emotional maturity of a woman in her 30s.

Immediately and unapologetically puts everyone else's lives at risk for some dude she's known for a week.

The math isn't mathin!

" forced by who ?
It’s unclear .
But she had no choice, okay ?
They were gonna kill her sister or something"😂

You forgot the love triangle. There's always gotta be 2 boys, both equally mysterious with tortured back stories.

“I’m your commanding officer….Kaboom…you can call me Boom.”

Seawater was wet after hearing his name. They eventually got into each other and Boom and Seawater made….Bang. It was loud and heavenly and all over the place.

It’s so ironic that The Hunger Games is seen as the prototype of this genre but actually reads like a deconstruction of it.

Don't forget that they met in some horribly embarrassing way like she threw up on his shoes or some other socially awkward thing because that's her singular flaw, but he still thinks she's the most gorgeous girl he ever saw, and he treats her so rough but he's dreamy

I love how she loses it at the noise of an explosion gag.

That bit about the 17 year old having the maturity of a 30 year old woman has been my pet peeve for YEARS. I remember reading six of crows and thinking, "finally, some mature MCs who aren't teens!" Only to find out they were literally. all. teens. (Except Matthias who was 20 I think??)

Everyone except Wylan's thought processes screamed adult so much to me that I was super thrown off any time I was reminded of their ages.

Only missing the protag being super bland so she can be a self insert for the audience, but also the sexy commanding officer needs to have a rivalry with another sexy knave who is a bad guy with a heart of gold, yet equally in love with the protagonist. Then at some point one of them must sacrifice himself in some way so that the love triangle can be resolved without leaving the protag looking like a bad guy.

Every YA novel female chararcter is just flawlessly going through puberty. Every YA novel male character is just being tortured by everyone and everything around him until he dies.
