Sadness, outrage over killing of zoo gorilla

The gorilla dragged a child across ta zoo enclosure after the boy fell in.

That gorilla stood guard over the child, then helped him get up. He then tried to bring the child to safety, hence the "dragging". There have been a number of incidents of kids falling into gorilla enclosures...just utube it....one petted the child and guarded the child, an other "dragged" the kid to safety door so the zoo keepers could access. This gorilla wanted to help the child...and for that he gets shot!!!! Shameful, disgusting, ignorant!!!!

I am trying to find footage of WHAT exactly the gorilla DID that made everyone scared he was going to hurt the child. I have watched this footage several times, and for some reason, I cannot find (or, remember seeing) the part where the gorilla might be harming the kid. Would someone be so kind as to put the exact minute/second mark? Or a link to a video that *does* show the relevant portion? Many thanks.

A human life is worth infinitely more than an animal's life. Glad the child was not seriously injured.

I bet the mom takes no responsibility for the dead gorilla that her irresponsibility caused. "mommy loves you" but not enough to watch you go into the bushes and into the exhibit... can't believe she is not being charged with child endangerment, being distracted is not an excuse nor blaming double and triple fences that the zoo didn't have for the lack of basic parent supervision. I see it in grocery stores, laundry mats, malls, ect. parents letting their kids do what the hell they want in public while they tune out and the rest of the adults around them shake their heads. I shake my head at this lady and her inadequate supervision skills in a public setting. I hope it is a long time until you feel comfortable being in a public setting with multiple children, it is the very least you can do for the gorilla's needless death.

I think a tranquilizer dart would have been enough at that point where the gorilla wasn't harming the child.

An animal lover takes her child to the zoo to see an endangered 400 lb gorilla. The small child crawls through a tiny opening which an adult may not easily have seen. The child slips through the opening and slides into the gorilla habitat. The gorilla doesn't intend to harm the child but is curious about it. It carries the child, drags it over rocks, knocks it against a rock wall and could accidentally break the child's neck or crush him to death so zoo officials determined that saving the child is a priority over the life of the gorilla. Tranquilizing the gorilla would have taken 10-20 more minutes which may have been too long to save the child. It is a sad ending to an accident. What is even sadder are the horrible comments concerning this tragedy. How can you have so much compassion for a gorilla but none for the mother and child? Compassion and love should be multiplied NOT divided!

If you have an ounce of moral standing, you would know that the animal had to be put down. It doesn't matter whose fault it was at the time the child was in harms way. A human life must take precedence over an animal's life. That child could have been killed in a heartbeat regardless of who was at fault. Some people need to get their priorities straight.

There is no shortage of dumb irresponsible parents, they should be ashamed of themselves. That being said, I support the decision made by the Zoo.
For everyone saying, "the gorilla appeared to be gentle." Yes, it's gentle until it's NOT gentle. Then? SNAP, like a twig, in the blink of an eye before anyone could respond. A wild animal is still just a wild animal. Would you trust your child's life in the hands of a beast with the hopes of it having a good enough day to not harm him(the child)? Every parent would hope for this same outcome if it means their child survives. Overall this situation just blows but human life is more valuable.

Why didn't the parents jump down into tje exhibit to rescue their It doesnt seem like the gorilla was going to tear him limb from limb. Why didnt the zoo personel get into the exhibit destract the gorilla and then shoot him with a tranquilizer? There many many scenarios - this outcome is horrid. The parents must have had their off of their child for some time. I would notice a child of 4 away from my side within 30 seconds. Wasn't that the reason they visited the zoo in the 1st place? For their child? I would like to sue the parents and the zoo on behalf of the gorilla. He deserves justice.
