Are Gas masks safe for airsoft?
I explain why gas masks are not as a general rule safe to use as an airsoft mask for face and eye protection. However, there are exceptions which I list in the video such as.
If the mask has reinforced lenses.
If the mask is behind another shield such as a polycarbonate riot visor.

I saw a guy not even 18 once, wearing an old communist gas mask at the beginning of the game. 15 min later I saw him with glasses only and the mask tied to his belt. We all had problems with humidity that day and couldnt see shit, so I asked if thats why he put it aside, he says "nope" and shows me his mask- right lenses was cracked exactly in the middle... poor lad got out lucky

Walmart sells a mask specifically for airaoft, the filter is actually a fan to cool your face and prevent fogging

What I've done with mine is replaced the lenses and gutted the mask so I can breath much easier.

I can say from personal experience that Avon C3 is an adequate candidate for an airsoft mask. I have bought mine for 45€, the lenses have a screw-on retainer so replacing them was no hustle at all, and I got mine with a plastic screw-on cover over the mouth/exhale part, which makes it even more fitting airsoft mask in my opinion, since it reinforces some of the more important parts of the mask too

This video is quite interesting, considering that I've been airsofting for 2 years and I still haven't purchased a "professionally-made" set of goggles. Instead I've been replacing the lenses of dust goggles and gas masks with ANSI Z87.1 plastic.
You can find face shields for $15 or less, and a good pair of shears can cut them into the shape you need. For a good "airsoft gas mask" candidate, I'd suggest a Swiss SM-74 mask; they're relatively cheap, don't muffle your voice too badly, easily adjustable, and the lenses are exceptionally easy to replace. Since the lenses are perfectly circular, they just have screw-on retainer rings on them.
As for my preference to gas masks in airsoft, although they do make breathing harder, (even with an emptied filter, or without one at all) they almost never fog. Most modern masks have Tissot tubes that send the air you breathe over the lenses, keeping them crystal clear no matter what.

I use an msa millennium with a polycarbonate outsert. Nice wide FOV and good protection.

I’d like to point out to the people claiming there are gas mask look alike s made specifically for airsoft. There are none that are actually ASNI rated, meaning it ensured it will never break and provides full protection. Bes you can do, and probably better alternative to an enclosed mask is a Half mask gas one.
