Why I hate Cheek Filter Gas Masks

Lots of reasons why I hate cheek filter gas masks such as the M17 and the Warsaw PACT clone masks based on it.
When the M17 went into service it did everything wrong, you couldn't change the filters in a CBRN environment, the mask weighed more than the previous M9 respirator and it was also bulkier.
These masks are interesting collectors pieces but would have been horrible to actually have to rely on in a CBRN situation.

I had a dream the other night of a mask that mainly used a canister filter, but it had cheek filters that are used while swapping the main filter. It looked a little bit like a 4A1

I agree with your ppints my man. i got an M10M that i use for a character on my channel called Gasmask man and whenever i film his parts its a fucking pain in the ass to move my head around because it feels like i have 20lbs infront of my face and its a pain to get a good airseal [might have spelled that wrong ] so when i got the CM-1 i change to that for the character because its lighter and doesnt make me feel like im the godfather.

and before you ask no i dont wear the cancer filter on it since i think we can all agree that the chance of lung cancer should be avoided at all cost.

now I understand why I can't breath through mine I thought they were supposed to be on the outside of the mask and the screws on the inside, I'm an idiot.

Cheek Filter masks Are a great design because they get the job done A Gasmask is used to finish your mission And get to a safer area in a real NBC envirement You are not going to camp out in the contaminated area Your going to get out of their and your not Going to use your Mask for 10 to 15 hours their for The whole Getting the filters In a cheek filter Mask Is Impossible without removeing the mask So they suck is not the case I will Be making a video About This later on my channel

Same as the he cheek filters usually have cheap filters as well like the Soviet one

in my viewpoint, that cheek gasmask would be useful in a situation where you putt the gas mask on and quickly going from point a to point b

Well, I'm actually getting a half-face respirator off of eBay.
It's coming december 2-22, if I remember correctly.

I don't know if you've covered this before, but do you have any idea if the m17 has asbestos or chromium, I've done some digging around but can't find anything, many thanks if you can help

The US Army keeps developing these really expensive ideas and then abandoning them due to some dissatisfaction with them. I remember as a kid, hearing the national guard griping that M17s were crap because they weren't NBC compatible. Same thing with the M40. The Army was all exited about putting the M40 in service then discovered the green rubber wasn't resistant to blister agents, and once again lost all enthusiasm for it. Now its the M50 and I am absolutly sure the damn Army will find something to hate about it. If you havent herd any complaints about the M50 yet, just wait. The Army will find some defect to make them lose all interest in fairly short order.
