The first result is in - and Labour's shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson has won in Houghton and Sunderland South with a majority of 7,169 votes.

She has won her seat, with Reform UK coming second.

Bridget Phillipson, Labour - 18,837 votes
Sam Woods-Brass, Reform UK - 11,668 votes
Chris Burnicle, Conservative - 5,514 votes
Paul Edgeworth, Lib Dem - 2,290 votes
Richard Bradley, Green Party - 1,723 votes

Starmer get rid or voter id for next time and set the next general election date that allows students to vote as the tories have done everything to try to rig this election in their favour.

She got the SMALLEST majority she has ever had, out of 5 elections. Less than half the previous lowest, and 8000 fewer votes than in 2017 when Labour lost.
