Uniformed police "open carry" and have learned from long experience that they need to patrol in pairs--at minimum. Solo armed security guards are more likely to be attacked for their gun than are two police. The 62% deterred by knowing that their victims are armed would go up when multiple victims are armed. Open carry is more effective when there are multiple defenders and those defenders can exhibit skill levels.

Before going to Marine Corps boot camp in 1975 I had a few run-ins with the town's street gang. Three of that gang met me when I returned on leave and was buying groceries--I was in uniform with an expert rifle badge and my brother bragged about what that signified. I didn't see any of the gang after that. The funny thing is that I didn't have a rifle.

I still prefer concealed carry and keeping my armed state secret. Keep the criminals guessing.

How many of those incarcerated criminals admit that if they are dissatisfied with how much loot they get off you they will injure or kill in retaliation?

The only part of my gun a bad guy needs to see is the muzzle flash.

Should have a part 2 to that. It was interesting.

While I’m onboard with learning weapon retention, I still support OC depending on circumstances.

One could make the point that, contrary to conventional wisdom, OC deters crimes as criminals have stated that they would drop a target if they believed the target to be armed.

Of course, absent a confession, one can’t tally crimes that didn’t occur—only the ones that did.

Is it a good idea to learn other self defense skills like say boxing, M.M.A, and kick boxing. It sounds like just like to me and a very good way to relieve stress and you get a great workout in as well. I have just started boxing and I absolutely love it, I’m also am wondering if my teacher is trying to teach me to be aware of what’s around me?

Put a heavy duty cable retractor on the open carry so when they snatch it and run off the cable trips a release of red ink everywhere on the criminal and his escape path.

It’s not a “give-away.” It’s a raffle. You have to buy a membership to be eligible. If you’re already a member, there’s no way to “enter” the contest unless you want to buy a second membership.

If you want to prevent the bad guy from taking your pistol away from you or you're a senior citizen & can't fight them... here's the solution: S&W airweight .357 revolver w/a Covered Hammer. Now you have pockets of thunder! They won't see it coming & even if they close the distance, they can't take the gun before you empty the cylinder @ point blank, center mass. Done.

All things aside I wish most everyone would open carry for one big reason… So all people see good people with guns and begin to feel comfortable and at ease in the presence of it.

The stat about the criminal disarming you also proves that you need to be willing to use it before you get it out. DO NOT draw it thinking that it will scare the criminal away. It's OK not to shoot if he turns and runs. But do not draw it expecting that outcome. If you are not ready to use it (mentally), do not bring it into the fight.

Your 3rd statistic is all one need to know to definitively know that it's never worth announcing that you're armed and will shoot (as opposed to just shooting the attacker).

A friend of my mom and dad lost his life when he was robbed by a group of people with a shotgun even though he handed over the merchant money bag he was on his way to the bank with at the time. He handed them the money and the woman in the group deleted his head with a double barrel shotgun for his efforts.
