MicroNugget: How to Change the LDP Transport Address

In this video, Keith Barker covers how to change the MPLS Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) Transport Address. One problem you might encounter with MPLS LDP hellos is that the default transport address might not be reachable. Keith will outline what you can do to resolve this, then step through how to do it.

When MPLS LDP hellos are being sent out, the router ID will default to the transport address. The challenge develops if that IP address isn’t reachable.

One option to resolve this is to change the default behavior: instead of advertising the transport address of the router ID, you can advertise the address that’s on the interfaces.

The advantage of this approach is that even if the LDP router ID isn’t reachable, you can still establish LDP sessions because the transport address is now the actual IP address of the interface.

Keith will walk you through each step of the process and demonstrate how easily this configuration can be established.
