MicroNugget: How to Configure a Frame Relay Switch

Frame relay is a technology that Cisco commonly uses in its certification programs, including CCNA, CCNP, and CCIE. For Cisco, frame relay represents all of their packet switch networks, from MPLS style networks to ATM. Some of the major steps Jeremy will cover include turning on the frame relay switching from a global perspective, enabling frame DCE interface processing, and creating your own frame routing table. He will use GNS3 to outline precisely what interfaces go to which router, then discuss various implementation strategies. You’ll also get a glimpse of the service provider perspectives and what they see about frame relay switches from their side.

Thanks for this Jeremy, I was following your ICND2 video series and I did not know how to setup the frame switch. So I was kinda stuck for a while, until I found this.
You should have a word with Keith, as he uses the GNS3 framerelay emulator, and in your hotdog, you say that real men don't use emulators :)
I personally prefer the switch approach too, as it drives towards getting more familiar with the different IOS commands

Dear Jeremy thank you for this wonderful video. Prior to watching it I had setup Frame Relay exactly the same way when I just recently started the CBT nuggets CCNP route course. But the problem is, that on GNS3 1.2(newest version) when I configure Eigrp AS 25 just like the video buts the interface starts bouncing going down and up randomly so does naturally the adjacency. I can ping the 172.16.124.0 network configured among the multipoint sub-interfaces with their respective DLCI's on HQ, East and West routers but not the loopback networks.

Multipoint subinterfaces can be configured with Inverse ARP e.g. "frame-relay interface-dlci 103" and with static mapping. So what are the scenarios that static mapping "frame-relay map ip" is absolutely necessary and must be used ?
